SGS Owners: 3-button fix released for those lacking the feature

Anyone else got I9000XWJM3 firmware 2.1-update1 that tried this fix yet? Is vodacom firmware seen as branded like O2 and Orange firmware in the UK?

what is your csc code?

my phone is international non-branded. I have not tried it yet, wiating for froyo at the end of the week. NO major sgs reconstrucktion, so dont really need it just yet.

OXA is unbranded .

check the XDA thread, it lists what would be named and un named.

PDA: I9000XWJM3
Phone: I9000XXJM2
CSC: I9000XFVJM1

Is Froyo being released end of the week?

your csc is XFVJJM1 so it points to branding.

edit: here is the list

could not find any anomalies in the BML block dumps provided, so I guess the new bootloader might require a newer firmware version to work properly.

Generally there should be no problems using it with JM1 or newer firmwares.

I made a full I9000XWJM8 release, which now includes the new bootloader.
It might be safer to flash a whole firmware, if the issue is firmware version related.

If your original firmware was I9000XWxxx version, you need to use I9000XWJM8. If it was I9000XF you need to use I9000XFJM6 (which I will post in soon). I9000XX will also follow.

The new I9000XWJM8 can be found here: GT-I9000_I9000XWJM8_I9000XXJM4_CM-RCVDL-FIX.7z

It includes I9000XXJM4 MODEM FW.

You need to download the CSC file separately.

Select the CODE_I9000XWJM8-SBL.tar.md5 file as PDA, MODEM_I9000XXJM4.tar.md5 as PHONE, and the desired CSC version as CSC.

Proceed as described in the first post, but select 512.pit as pit file.
DO NOT SELECT RE-PARTITION. So you select four files in total (.pit, PDA, PHONE, CSC at the same time!)

If the issue is firmware version related (i.e incompatible with the new bootloader) it should work with this version.

DBT (Germany specific)
OXA *Multi CSC* (for France, Germany, Italy, Poland, UK, UK & Ireland)
OXE *Multi CSC* (for Baltic, Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine)
OXX *Multi CSC* (for Austria, Baltic, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Switzerland)

BMC *Multi CSC* Unbranded / Custom apps: (Canada)
HUI Branded: (Tre - H3G Italy)
OLB *Multi CSC* Unbranded / Branded: (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam)
OPS Unbranded / Custom apps: (Optus Australia)

TMN Light version by Phk (Custom boot & shutdown animations, TMN applications, favorites & bookmarks removed)

XEC Branded / Custom apps and game demos: (Movistar Spain)

To all those with Vodacom phones - DO NOT RUN THIS UPDATE. It will brick your phone. I didn't do it, but checked the BML1 dump of the phone and the last line reads e-fused, not U3.

YA very important, it is stated in the thread, do not flash if you have a branded phone.

Phone is unbranded, but the firmware is branded. Am I correct in assuming you are yusuf_fee on XDA? Seems like you got yours working then...? I have the same CSC as you did, so should I give it a shot?

No, i am not, i have not done it yet either. I am waiting for FROYO, on thursday.

That is strange that you have branded firmware, where did you get your phone from.

this is a delicate process and must follow the instructions exactly, or brick you phone. read that thread entirely, because same pages later the original author made some changes.

edit: I see the author has updated the thread. Read post 1 again, here is the excerpt

Update 9/19/2010: The newest and yet the safest method described above. DO NOT use the old methods to update!

BEFORE USING THE UPDATE.ZIP FILE:

Here is how to check if the PBL is good or not for SBL update:

Download the XVI32 Hex Editor

Dump your BML1 block (rooted phone needed):

Open a new command prompt and type:

1. adb shell
2. su (a superuser request will be displayed on the phone screen, accept it).
3. dd if=/dev/block/bml1 of=/sdcard/bml1.dump

The dump will be copied to the root of the internal SD card.

Open the bml1.dump file with XVI32.
Scroll to the very end of the file.

If it says e-fused, DO NOT update the SBL.
If it says U3", you should be fine.

I am yusuf_fee. it worked for me. and im able to access recovery mode very easily now.

Awesome. Have you tried checking your BML1 dump though? I've got the same firmware as you, also branded Vodacom firmware. Like I said in the other thread, the update worked for a friend of mine a couple of minutes ago, but his BML1 dump read U3" on the last line, whilst mine was e-fused. Also weird considering we both got our phones from Vodacom, 2 weeks apart...

Yeah, I read about the BML1 dump check. Read my reply to ghostbuster above... I got my phone from Vodacom and it has the Vodafone startup and shutdown animations, hence its branded firmware...
