Shaping getting worse

Last month I was able to get up to 400k on the international giganews usenet server but recently it's gone down to 40k. Shaping seems to be alternating now, haha, it's a real laugh. At roughly 5PM, my speeds on the news server go down to 40k (from about 100k, still slow), and my torrent speeds go up to about 140k. At roughly 7AM the situation reverses again. This is quite ridiculous. Can they just make up their minds already? Come on!!!

Tried Openlab's unshaping proxy but

1) Any private tracker won't recognise you (which are the most important ones)
2) Using the proxy on the news servers reduce speed by up to 60% and browsing by up to 40%

Anyone else bare witness to this kind of thing? Any other observations you've made from the shaping lately?

the net is slow, the fact that you're getting even 40k is alot, i get alot ALOT less!. try 5k!.

What is this Proxy btw ???
 
What ADSL line do you have and why on earth are you getting 5k?

google openlabs, it's a openweb initiative, pleasant to see but not very successful at this point IMHO, hopefully things will improve, all change is welcome.
 
I get like 15K during the day on int.

but 350K after 5.. usually

I'm on Openweb 384k Uncapped, and she's been crawling for some time!. Sometimes she shoots up to 40k but that's only 20% of the time!. Like now, I'm lucky to get more than 4kbs!!!..
 
Something else i'm just wondering... It says here :
Line Attenuation Down is 14db, up 3.5
Noise Martin is down 31db up 23db
Anyone - is this correct ?

I'm trying to figure out if there is a problem perhaps with my line.....

Also using OpenDNS as the default DNS settings gets me nowhere!.

I'm on the same package and my torrents have been VERY slow for a week or so now (approx. 6kB/s download). The funny thing is my uploads speeds are OK. The torrents I use have more than enough seeders. Web browsing is also a bit slow these days.

Yup! - Exactly! Latest Eps of Grey's, Smallville, Lost everything trickles down!.
 
My observation is that P2P on IS gets shaped between 07:00 in the morning and 17:00 in the afternoon on weekdays. Outside of these business hours I have been getting really good speeds on P2P, but browsing internationally has been very patchy.

This week, during the day and evening its been really really bad!. Right now to my surprise its hauling at 34k!. Guaranteed this wouldnt last very long, as long as i can get to watch my 2 eps of Grey's and Smallville : ))

Edit: I do find it a little odd that During the public holidays and most weekends the speed is okayish, but other days Day or Night P2P sux!

Exactly what I said bro, I'm glad to see someone else has noticed, interesting observation is that my news servers boost during the day but decrease at night as I mentioned.
 
Same problem here, started about 3 weeks ago

My Openweb Uncapped (IS) 512k, slowed to 5k during day, 15k at night on all torrents. Compared to the 20k during the day and 50K at night I used to get this SUCKS

international browsing also very patchy, video streaming also less than useless
 
Same here. I'm on an openweb 30gig local account. Getting 3.5kb/s during the day...after 5 it shoots up to over 100kb/s. I don't even get my 4mbit speed anymore...max out at 200kb/s....really not worth it anymore paying for the higher speed and not even getting it at night.
 
Agreed :)

Used to get much much better speeds, especially on torrents. My 30GB local openweb account also doesnt get much higher than 200K. Even battling with newsgroups....

Beginning to wonder if a 4MB line is really worth it - not getting any decent speeds on it anymore!
 
Mr BEEP - What is going on? Scream and shout at IS for us and get them to sort their cr@p out - this is really really getting a little too much now!.
 
I'd also like for someone to account for these clearly visible shaping methods being implemented, maybe one of the ISPs could respond? Maybe contact IS???
