Share Ratio Dilema

Thats the problem with ADSL, 4MB down and only 1/8 of that back up. I have a different problem - lotsa leased lines and no accounts ;)

Don't worry about being banned. These guys are very understanding- you'll have enough time!

Anyway, here's how you fix your ratio:

Torrent clients aren't very clever. If you're downloading, uploading will be slow on everything you're seeding. It's just the way it works. So download something then seed it for 24 hours with no other downloads.

Also, jump on new content, even if it means getting up at 4am! Even better would be to get that content from another site (news server or international) and "help-seed." Download the torrent file and point the client to the directory where the content file is saved. It will check the file and start seeding immediately. You do however have to get the same version as on the site. This way you upload without downloading anything

On every torrent I've ever downloaded from the start I've been able to seed back what I got at least 2 times. Which on a 384K is only possible if other people aren't seeding well (and even if they are, it takes 3 384Kers to upload full speed for a 384Ker), so unless the torrents is a month old there's no reason to for a bad ratio.

Also I don't have to worry about my ratio that much, because at the start I build in a *buffer* so that I can download freely and still have a good ratio.

Note: I only download Linux distros using torrents.

Update

PM'ed a moderator last night, and he was very understanding. Bumped up my ratio so i don't get banned, and suggested pretty much the same advice you guys are saying. Watch out for old files, they lead to poor seeding, and then bring in new stuff. He put me onto a nzb site, but am not too sure how it all works. It says download as normal, but is it similar to a torrent, or does it have to be repacked or something? Have limited my download speed, and hopefully that will help. FYI, i don't download while i upload, the only time it con-incides, is when the download is busy, after that, it uploads for at least 48 hrs. I'm a good seeder, just with speed problems, ahem...

Yay for you Wasp_21

nzb's are different. You don't have to upload anything :p

You need a program like Grabbit or Alt.binz to download nzb's. Then the files are all unrared and you have the show you downloaded.
