Haven't really seen a thread dedicated only to apps (there's an elimentals blog, and the sticky has a smattering of everything from apps to rooting to comparisons). That, or i'm too lazy to use the search function:-P

I flash my mini occasionally, so here's a list of worthwhile apps/widgets I must have installed straight after:

Mybroadband app - what else to start off the list?:-P
Advanced task killer or Close everything 2 - kills background apps, definitely needed. Whats great about them both is that you can put their widgets on a homescreen, then simply just touch those widgets and apps are killed! I gravitate towards ATK (close everything kills...well everything, including phone signal for a few seconds)
Bluetooth file transfer - self evident. I don't like its UI too much tho.
EasyTether - use phone as modem for computer. Not all manufacturers add this functionality to their phones (yes you SE). You will need to install an app on your pc as well to make this work.
ES file explorer - is (if not already) the de facto standard for android file explorers. You can even backup installed apps and send to other android users (ta elimentals for that tip;-)). A must have.
Flashlight - torch app. Add widget to homescreen, touch, and let there be light.
Total recall - records phone convos perfectly. Tip: Use this to get good service from a certain cellular operator after informing the consultant you're taping the call;-)
LauncherPro - a UI easy on resources, can be used instead of manufacturer's stock UI
Fancy widget - clock/weather combo
ProxyDroid - for some odd reason, you cannot set proxies on android OSes (may have changed with versions 2.2+). This app fixes that for you. I havent checked if it works with the market tho

I have an SE xperia x10 mini. not a heavyweight by any means, but all these apps run perfectly.

If anyone else has anything else to add, please feel free

Awesome lists those. I think we should sticky a thread (updated occasionally) for the best apps based on our reviews as downloading apps in SA isn't particularly cheap.

I hate it when people run or sell apps like that, Android Auto kills apps and if you want to run something to kill apps kill them on CPU usage not what is in your memory

See http://lifehacker.com/5650894/andro...ed-what-they-do-and-why-you-shouldnt-use-them

interesting, makes sense. will have a look at this watchdog app they talked about

I use have it running and saved me twice already where I forgot Modern Combat running in the background and the app send a alarm that something is eating more juice than it should.

I've just installed EasyTether Lite on my X10 mini pro (2.1 standard, not rooted), and am running an Internet connection on my Debian Squeeze netbook through it now. Absolutely no hassles.
