I have to connect 4 laptops to connect to the internet (neotel prime unlimited) my computer is permanently connected to the internet so I would like to share the connection with the other 3 wirelessly, I have tried to connect using ad hoc, a router (we can and share files but still no internet on the other pc's)

Could someone please explain step by step how to share my internet connection.

The laptops are running vista home basic

Step1. - Uninstall Vista :p

jokes, but seriously vista can be a pain sometimes.

Each pc needs to have a unique IP adress and the gateway must be that of the router.

Setup main pc with a unique IP like - 192.168.1.10
Have your router on 192.168.1.1
and then give the other laptops unique ips too. 192.168.1.2 + 192.168.1.3 etc

You need to go into your network settings on Vista too and turn everything on like file sharing

Or you could login to the router and change it to DHCP which will send out IPs automatically, but then you obviously have to turn on DHCP on each machine...

You also have to turn on ICS on the main pc - Right-click my computer, click properties, its in the remote tab i think

EDIT: Sry, I read now that you can share files, just not interent...Double check that ICS is turned on.

computers are quite frustrating when they dont want to work, I've been thinking about getting my hammer for this thing.

As soon as I put the ICS on the network turns into a undifiened network and there is still no internet for the other users, can anyone tell me how to solve this problem.

PS Is this easier to do on xp
