Until recently our home set-up was as follows:

* Desktop PC running Windows XP
* Laptop running Windows 8.1
* HP Laserjet 1022 Printer
* Canon Canoscan 4400F scanner
* Billion 400G Ethernet & WiFi router

The Win XP PC was connected via Ethernet to the router
The Laptop was connected via Wi-Fi to the same router

The situation as it is now ...... The (very old) XP PC was recently replaced by a new Desktop PC running Win 8.1

The new PC is still able to make use of the Printer & Scanner with no problems.

But I cannot set up my Laptop to print to the common HP printer, nor use the Canon scanner. I have tried via a Wi-Fi connection, with no success, so I changed my laptop connection to the router to an Ethernet connection, but I still can't print, nor scan, to those two devices.

I can see the 2 x devices (Printer & Scanner) listed on my Laptop, but just cannot print or scan using those devices.

Any ideas on what I need to do to be able to print & scan from my Laptop to those connected printer & scanner?

I have a LaserJet 1022 and they do not have onboard network ability so your "listed on my Laptop" are likely dead phantom entries. My printer is plugged into a router that acts a printer sharer. You can also plug in the printer into your desktop and then share it with Windows Files and Printer Sharing. I am not familiar with your scanner and I don't understand why you want to use a scanner over a network.

Most places connect their printer/scanners to the network.
I scan direct to my work mailbox.

I'm not to familiar with older computers but will the fact that the new PC could be running a 64Bit version affect the drivers that are needed for the laptop if it still has a 32Bit system?

As long as the 32bit driver is already on the PC - no
Otherwise - it will affect automatic installation but that's a seperate topic

Have you tried to uninstall both the printer and scanner drivers on the laptop?

When you plug the printer and scanner into the laptop does it work?

It is similar to mine and my one has lan and wifi built in mine is the 1025nw.
