Ok, so I don't know if this is the correct place to ask but anyway, bear with me :D
I want to network 2 PC's and share my ADSL connection and was wondering if there's any process I have to go through? I'm using PPPoE atm and I heard somewhere something about a 'bridge' mode if you want to network  If anyone could clear it up for me and gimme some info on exactly what to do, it would be muchos appreciatos :D

Few Q's:
1. How far are the 2 PCs from each other?
2. Where is the modem setup?
3. Which modem?
4. Is it a modem/router?

1) about 25m
2) on my PC?
3) SMC7904BRA (with 4 ports)
4) A router

If that helps :D

When you say you're using PPPoE do you dial up directly from each PC rather than letting the router handle the connection?

I only have it on my PC atm and I have a connection which is PPPoE .... I click on it, it connects me ..... that's my knowledge in a nutshell :D

well what you can do is share the internet connection, the other pc will only be able to use internet when the pc with the router is connected. I use a setup like that at my home, it is a bit restrictive but it works, altough i use an adsl modem not a router

Yeah, that's actually all I want to do for now ...... how do I set that up?

Unless you need to run 2 accounts simultaneously for using local only etc. then the best thing to do would be to set the router to connect to the net then connect both PC's to that either via cable or wireless.

I've got that router - you dont have to do anything special to use it in bridged mode. So you can have one account on the modem - and a different one on a PC . . . or you can simply share the one on the modem . . . or you can have each PC managing its own connection.

So if I network the PC's via cable, all I have to do is make a connection on the other PC or is it basically just click on FF and it's online?

You talking to me? :D

Yeah - just set up the internet connection on the other PC and off you go. I have one account on my router that is shared - and then each of my computers has at least one other connection ready to go if necessary . . . any my neighbours have their own accounts for when they want to surf the net.

Hehe, /me was just talking to whoever was gonna answer :D So if I'm online the other PC can be online too?

Yes - also - total bandwidth will be shared amongst all the connections.

Sweet ..... that'll do for now. I want to eventually get wireless and have separate accounts but that's then. Thanks chaps :D
Lets back up a second - do you want to share a single connection (ie one account) between two or more computers . . . . or do you want to have multiple connections (accounts) for multiple computers?

No, one shared account for now on 2 PC's and then multiple accounts but on one router later on.

Then you can just set the router to handle the connection - either via the Setup Wizard or Advanced Setup (WAN>ATM PVC>VC1)

If you let the router handle the connection you'll have the added firewall security.

Maybe that sounds like the thing to do then :D
