Okay Guys, so im in need of help figuring out how this works. I want to share my hard drive content, to my Laptop and other devices. is this possible by plugging it into my Router's USB drive? The only reason i dont want to use Plex, is because i dont want my PC on all the time.

can one use some sort of sharing feature? is there a sharing feature like this?

The usb ports on a router are normally very slow. I use a usb stick in my router as a mini-fileserver (TP link router) and it works okish for excel and the like, but i would not recommend it as a media server. Maybe on a USB3 port it will work better.

Your routers config page will have a option to configure the usb attached device. I have options for storage, ftp, media and print. Your options will vary depending on the router you have.

You'll just frustrate yourself. As far as I could test only one device could ever access the content on the drive.

Might look into this Raspberry business.

Using a Raspberry Pi provides a number of options, from sharing via Samba to NAS (e.g. OpenMediaVault), and (of course) Plex or Kodi.
