Looks like Beast is heading off to the Lions next season!

Informed sources say the Sharks have apparently also made it clear to Mtawarira that they were the union to have fetched him in Zimbabwe, and to have given him a chance to get a foothold in South African rugby.

This emotional appeal, which is now issued by team bosses in Durban, is meant to counter the massive amount that the Lions' new owners are apparently willing to pay for Mtawarira.

It is no secret that the Sharks are deeply disappointed by the possibility that he may be lost to them and could be seeking greener pastures.

The bolded part is quite funny. I remember very long ago when I got my first job after school and got a much better offer from a competitor they also tried this emotional BS on me. Trying to tell me they were kind enough to give me a job after school.
Beast has paid his dues and would be stupid to turn down a massive offer from the Lions. If the Sharks can't match it, what other reasons are there to stay in Durban?

This is the professional era. Players go where they can pocket the most.
That is pretty much what the Sharks say when they sign players from other unions, and I've never had a problem with that. They shouldn't have a problem with that either.

What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

EDIT: How many of the current Sharks' squad are actually from KZN?

Probably not that much. KZN doesn't have as many feeder schools as Gauteng and the Cape. But they do have Grey College just across the border ;)

It doesn't bother me at all that players go and seek greener pastures. It is only natural for them to get as much out of their limited years as possible.
But it will be quite ironic if the Sharks are going to make a massive fuss about Beast leaving. Especially if the Lions find a loophole in his contract. Louis Ludick and Willem Alberts come to mind.

Yeah, our EP/Border/SWD schools also come to mind! I agree with you about the greener pastures... if you want loyalty, buy a dog!!

meh this new BS format has really put a damper on the build up for me :(

I watched "Sharkbites" on Super Sport. The team is looking good and well motivated.

I still see ABSA all over the stadium. I thought they were walking away from their sponsorship?

The NRU are probably too tight fisted to get the signage removed. So, are we calling it by its rightful name again? Kings Park.

It's likely to be like that. The FSRU have left the Vodacom signs up at Free State Stadium, despite Vodacom no longer sponsoring the Cheetahs, FS Cheetahs or the stadium.

I still say that The Sharks should look to play some games at the new stadium. The story of there not being enough suites at Mabhida is BS. Now that the temporary seating on Level 6 has been removed there is a massive amount of space to build new suites, even prefab ones.

We have the best stadium in Africa and they're using it for ... Lottery cricket...

I hear what you're saying about the M/B Stadium, but Kings Park has history and it's the home if Sharks rugby. It's difficult to move on from.

Truth be told, the Sharks are only 14 or 15 years old at most (pro era began "officially" in 1996). The history they're clinging onto is that of the old amateur Natal Rugby Union, and if we're honest, there wasn't a whole lot to shout about for that Union's history up until 1990.

As I understand it, the Kings Park Stadium is supposedly "paid for", but last year I attended a few matches and I have to say, the facilities there are appalling by modern standards. The PA system wasn't working properly. The giant TV has more missing pixels than our government has missing millions. The pubs on the Eastern stand are rubbish too. It's actually just an eyesore now. They should demolish it and build a massive car-park for the new stadium.

The NRU was originally based at Kingsmead, but I don't see anyone asking them to move back.

The Sharks will move, it's just a matter of time. The NRU will never be given planning permission to expand Kings Park or make alterations. The council can simply squeeze them out.

I don't think that the the stadium will be demolished yet though, it will be really useful in a 2020 Olympic bid, having a decent sized secondary stadium next to Moses Mabhida as the Olympic Stadium.
