Sharp rise in people jumping SA ship

Very strange that just when the future is looking up people are bailing.

The future is really only looking up if certain things happen...
And there isn't enough certainty that those things will actually happen.
 
FNB economist John Loos uses statistics, that include property sales in his emigration data. This shows that the number of people selling to emigrate is the highest since 2009.

At the start of 2014 about 2% of respondents were selling to emigrate. This rose to almost 5% in 2016 and peaked at 7.3% between July and September 2017, he said.

If he's using property sales as a base for his emigration data then I have news for him...

Most of the expats I know never owned and/or never bothered to officially/financially emigrate. They(we) just up and left.

And here I am with a development up the road where the crappiest home is R4mil, all sold out within days (about 500 plots iirc). Then again, CT has like 2% of people stating they sold their home to emigrate...

If I had intentions of emigrating, I would wait it out till after 2019 elections. Maybe I am being optimistic but I feel that will be the turning point we've been yearning for. State capture's tentacles are being pruned and No.1 is facing a decision on the charges, the municipalities are already co-governed by coalitions. So yes the indicators are positive for the near future.

My folks sold up from Dbn North and moved to the Cape a couple of years ago. On the other hand, I left for the UK, as have several of my mates.

For many people the turning point is the NEC this year..

IF Zuma or his cronies are in power we are screwed pretty much.. The economy cannot take another year and a half of their looting.

But I'm in a similar boat.. 2019 is going to be the time I draw a line in the sand in terms of staying for the long term or starting plans to move overseas.
 
Cannot see any realistic scenario that makes staying worthwhile in the long run. Always 5 minutes until midnight in SA. It's getting old. Time for new beginnings.
 
You are gonna see a lot more bail next year if this next election doesn't bring a visible change to this country.,...
 
Percentage of 38% sounds about right, half my friends want to leave. :(
Admittedly I want to do the same once my studies are complete.

For most jobs you'll need to stay & get a couple years experience under your belt first.

What Havoc said. European education is miles ahead of ours, but motivated South Africans aren't stupid. They're going to run circles around you unless you've upped your game.
