There's so many international companies using some kind of trick in order for the customer to pay as little import tax as possible, I've recently ordered some outback boots from Australia, total cost was around R3000, only paid like R50 import tax, couldn't understand it at first and was stressing that I'll be getting the wrong item or something. That's until I saw the paperwork, the invoice they attached to the parcel showed that the item was only like R600, they basically know what the no tax import limit is in SA and then adjust the price on the invoice before dispatching.

I'm not complaining though, and will be using them again for sure. F**k SARS, and the government.

Nike does the same thing, Buy sneakers for R3000 or R4000 and on the box it says “Men’s jersey” with an invoice of R1000. But inside the box it is shoes worth more than that.

They are busy investigating this. The problem is if they are caught out, YOU are in trouble because you need to declare the correct invoice.

JOHANNESBURG—South Africa’s government said Monday that it is investigating fast-fashion company Shein following complaints from the local textile union and industry association that it may be exploiting tax loopholes to gain an unfair advantage in Africa’s most developed economy.

A spokesman for the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition declined to provide details on the investigation, but he said that it was initiated in response to concerns raised by labor and industry groups. The issues raised by the South African groups resemble complaints by manufacturers and unions in the U.S. that claim that Shein and other Chinese retailers are taking advantage of an exception in U.S. customs law that allows them to import goods without paying tariffs.

The South African government normally charges tariffs of between 40% and 45% on imported clothing, depending on the value, but Shein may be paying as little as 10% to 20%, Mr. Vlok said.

Ordering from Nike.com to South Africa?

Yes ordering from Nike.com/ snkrs to South Africa.
Hard to believe a legit company like Nike would intentionally subvert import laws of a certain country by falsely declaring items & value.

Well they do. I order from them every few months and what is written on the invoice is never the correct value that I pay as a customer. I will post some pics if I can find the boxes.

Edit: here are a few pics. These are all shoes and with a minimum purchase price of R2600 going up to R4000. They are all under declared on the invoice.

You are however responsible for making sure the correct value has been declared.

There is no way for me to do that. I pay Nike and they send the shoes via aramex. The only communication I get is via Nike. I never have to deal with customs ever, and the only time I communicate with Aramex is when they call me to tell me they will be delivering to me on that particular day. I am sure Nike knows what they are doing. I mean they send hundreds of orders into the country everyday, if something was wrong customs would’ve caught up by now.
