I'm thinking of trying my first non-out-the-box 'project' :

I want to add a Shelly UNI to make a pressure sensor smart ... and put the sensor under the baby changing station. I want it to activate a lamp next to the bed when a baby is being changed .

Does anyone know where I can get a pressure sensor ? I don't really know which are the best shops and a quick Google gave me RSOnline, but they only have sensors that pick up from 16KG upwards (not ideal for a baby)

Would a distance or infrared sensor not work? Seems like the pressure pads are meant for larger weights.

Maybe - but I've got the Shelly Motion which I tried and it's not ideal for this situation. It detects most the room and I want it fairly localized. I can try move it's location or explore other ideas.

Motion eye but mounted at foot level facing where you would stand, can use some wood/cardboard to narrow its area

Cheap enough to at least try , I guess !

Thanks !

How about just getting a spring and a micro-switch? You should be able to get both at a hardware store just pick the spring weight to be higher than the changing station, put it in one of the corners so if you place a baby in it, the corner goes down a little bit triggering the micro-switch?

If you want a more "technically challenging" solution you can look at Robotics , your looking for a load cell but its a bit of challenge to mount the things in most cases

Maybe.

I'm looking at all avenues right now.

I'll like to integrate something into what I have right now. The lamp is already smart, so preferably looking at something to action that.

It was at Smartshack - but looks like it was removed ?

These guys have it too >>> https://www.robofactory.co.za/search?controller=search&s=shelly&page=2

I haven't done the pressure sensor yet, but there are a few things I'd like to try (I just dunno if they work). I saw a soil moisture sensor that can probably be connected to the Uni as well, which can can activate a relay if too dry (I'm assuming)
