Shift to appliances and practical gifts

“Middle-aged adults are buying LCDs and digital SLR cameras, and digital photo frames have been a sought-after Christmas present.”
Yuck. Give me a 8x10 in a cheap clicks frame over that any day.

I totally agree with you bwana...

The digital photo frame thing doesn't grab me at all.....

Eish, thought ppl were struggling for money atm.....

Interest rates are down, are they not?
Petrol is down?
Food prices may come down next year.

So ... time to spend and drive the economy -- the Chinese economy that is.

While I didn't think of myself as a "practical and value gift" kinda shopper, the article kinda hit home based on what I bought for people this christmas.
However, it's what they wanted, rather than what I thought to buy them, so I guess people's wants have changed, and the buying pattern is the result.
My useless Captain Obvious post for the year :)

Hell no... :D...

I have better things to spend my money on, than useless gifts that people will throw away soon after I've given it to them....

Yea my Fiancee needs a new iron and washing machine, none of this jewelery or smelly BS, work dammit!!!!!!! :p

LOL, and a new ironing board, new broom, new vacuum cleaner, some mops, lots of detergent and some toilet brushes. Yeah practical gifts I think are great. On the other hand she can reciprocate with a home appliance for you - a new big screen TV. That's a home appliance, no?
