Shocktober: is a go?

Some of those fat chicks might be scary when you wake up next to them, otherwise it looks meh.

If you want scares go party in Hillbrow on any Friday night.

Help a normie out?
October + metal (or proper rock) = rocktober
October + horror = shocktober

So normally a good time to catch up on missed out horror on shudder and or whatever is new. Initial warmups and others I wanted to watch...

Ranked for worst to better

1759561517119.png

Monster Island - 2024

Set in the Pacific, 1942. A Japanese soldier and a British prisoner of war are stranded on a deserted island, hunted by a deadly creature. Two mortal enemies must come together to survive the unknown.

One monster two men - Overall okay would have been great / better if there was more than one monster on island not a c-movie version of insmouth fish people.

1759561860131.png

John and the Hole - 2021

A coming-of-age psychological thriller that plays out the unsettling reality of a kid who holds his family captive in a hole in the ground.

Not a horror, not a thriller actually not a move at all - You know this type if you have seen a few in an art gallery where its running showing something weir and sometimes wonderful. In that it was a great cerebral out of body where you are John going the events, whatifs and so on.

1759562239308.png

Clown in a Cornfield - 2025

A fading midwestern town in which Frendo the clown, a symbol of bygone success, reemerges as a terrifying scourge.

a Cookie cutter teen slasher - Would have been better if The Why wasn't so over explained and the clown(s) was just the clown(s) killing. Otherwise typical teens getting slashed.

1759562086894.png

Satanic Hispanics - 2022

When police break into a house in El Paso, they find it filled with dead Latinos and a lone survivor. Known as "El Viajero," he is taken to the police station for questioning.

This was actually pretty good - If you don't watch it like a moron and think its "five different movies" instead of watching as intended, a single movie being told in events/items.

These were just abysmal.

1760098752698.png

The Last House on the Left - 1972

Mari and Phyllis set off to the big city to attend a concert, but the pair run afoul of a group of crooks who subject the girls to a terrifying ordeal of humiliation, torture and murder..

Stopped watching at about 20 mins as this clearly wasn't the film I thought it was going to be

1760098764022.png

Something Wicked This Way Comes - 1983

In a small American town, a diabolical circus and its demonic proprietor prey on the townsfolk.

Could not make it past 50% in - from the synopsis I thought it was going to be amazing, but it was not.

1760098777873.png

Baskin - 2015

A squad of unsuspecting cops go through a trapdoor to Hell when they stumble upon a Black Mass in an abandoned building.

Forgot I was watching a movie as I were forever teases about buckets of blood and hell which just didn't happen. Although the opening scene was promising followed by the restaurant. At that point, hell should have opened and buckets of blood but no.

1760098790285.png

perewangan - 2024

A girl named Maya who is terrorized by various unusual things. Ironically, Maya's father died. All this terrible terror occurred after Maya's mother fell ill.

Started on this and then just stopped. lol. Will try again...

Each October is a tradition for me for the past 20 years already just watching 'Horrors' and I call it my 'HorrorFest'. It's also a challenge to see how many 'Horrors' you can watch during the month of October, but at minimum to watch 1 'Horror' a day. Some years I can reach 60-100, but lately it's been 1 a day, or maybe 2. Some years I'll go by the alphabet or certain themes. But, still it's fun to decide what to watch each day. Bring it on you bloodsucking demons! 🎃

Here is what I've watched so far this October.

Scary movies do nothing for me anymore.

Oct. 15th
Hellraiser.jpg

These were as ok to good, well except hellhouse 3 which kinda ****ed the formula and story - 1 was good, 3 was ****, 2 was good with 4th contiuing on one and two. Then I did some classics The Crimson Cult and House of Wax:

1761486308201.png

Hell House LLC - 2015

Five years after an unexplained malfunction causes the death of 15 tour-goers and staff on the opening night of a Halloween haunted house tour, a documentary crew travels back to the scene of the tragedy to find out what really happened.

Another spin on The Blair Witch Project 1999 witch we've found dem tapes, Blair Witch was OG and only other flick I did think was good, was one night with the devil. Now hellhouse good in the sense in what tried to do with what they had vs its the same old boring spooks and spirits. As for the story, not bad, for tape angle also not bad at all, The 1st one is the best of the three (3rd one just dont watch it. It literally ****s with story and is basically a redo of the 1st one but now nice ending) - 7/10

1761486320349.png

Hell House LLC II: The Abaddon Hotel - 2018

Two years after escaping from demonic terror, a young woman is still haunted by unnatural visions.

Good continuation of the 1st can recommend although bit weaker than 1st - 6.5/10

1761486332297.png

Hell House LLC III: Lake of Fire - 2019

The Abaddon Hotel will once again be open to the public. Russell Wynn has taken his audience-interactive show, Insomnia, into the abandoned hotel that is rumored to be haunted.

Dog-**** avoid, its basically The Lost ending for 1 and 2 no one wanted and makes you think disney did it - 0/10

1761486347582.png

Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor - 2023

A group of cold case investigators stay at the Carmichael Manor. After four nights, the group was never heard from again. What is discovered on their footage is even more disturbing than anything found on the Hell House tapes.

Ok to good continuation of 1st two; not as dog-**** as 3rd but also abit weaker imho than 1 and 2. Not sure I'm liking the clown injection, that is okay guys lets now explain the clown. The clown was great as it was in 1st one and that was it, really no need to over exaplain and (re)work it into the story - 6.5/10

1761486359462.png

The Crimson Cult - 1968

Robert Manning visits the remote country house where his brother Peter was last seen. While his host seems outwardly friendly and his niece more demonstrably so, Robert detects a feeling of menace in the air.

Begins with BSDM sex orgy, witch, a goat, a priest and some torture dude with a too small black pantie on. I thought what can go wrong here... wasn't a bad movie per say but in end I was like WTF, Okay, well I guess that is the end / that is the boogy man (and not woman) - 6.5/10

1761486372930.png

House of Wax - 1953

An associate burns down a wax museum with the owner inside, but he survives only to become vengeful and murderous.

This was really great can recommend for some oldie 50s horror - 7/10
