Shooting in Paris

Minister of interior confirms one attacker was shot dead.
 
4 days before the elections...

Hoping Le Pen does not surge thanks to this.
 
Statement from the spokesperson of the ministry of interior:

A man jumped out of a car with an automatic weapon and started shooting at a police van.

Afterwards he started shooting at two policemen on patrol, one was shot dead and the second seriously injured.

He then started to run and was shot by other policemen.

They exclude the theory of an armed robbery gone wrong.

They're not sure about an accomplice but the area is sealed off and being searched.
 
The antiterrorism section of the NPA is in charge of the investigation, so it's definitely considered as terrorism.
 
Reports that a robbery took place during the attack, if that's true doesn't sound like your standard terrorist attack.
 
There were rumors but the ministry of interior denied it.

Additional news: the policeman shot dead was one of the ones in front of the police van. Then the attacker ran and shot at not one but two policeman who are both seriously injured.

So 3 policemen shot.

They still don't exclude accomplices.

And important information: the identification of the suspect is in progress but not yet established.

Ps: you'd have to be insanely stupid to commit an armed robbery on the Champs Elysées before the elections while in state of emergency. There's probably more cops per square meter than in a police station.

Weird because it was the ministry of interior spokesman who suggested this. Nothing concrete though of course.

Here's his statement:

L'hypothèse d'un braquage qui a mal tourné, évoquée par certaines sources, ne semble pas privilégiée par la Place Beauvau. "Je peux vous dire que, selon les première constatations, ce sont les policiers qui ont été visés directement".

Litterally: the hypothesis of an armed robbery gone wrong, mentioned by some sources, is not the first thesis of the ministry. I can tell you that from what we know according to the first informations, the policemen were directly targeted.

Ok, probably a translation error from my source then.
 
People from the area (so including my mother) are asked to remain home while the police establishes formally if there was an accomplice.

The witnesses testimonies seem to diverge on this.
 
From police sources: It is now established that the attacker was alone.

The attacker was apparently known by the police (probably had a criminal record).
