Shops refusing to swipe card when chip fails

They should actually not allow the swipe because if its fraud then they have to pay.

As for the pin, its probably because its not a credit card ? All debit cards need pins.

I was asked for my pin in this situation, but I was a Virgin Money credit card. Most times when swiping it, I am asked for a pin.

You can't force them to take the risk.... remember its all on them.

I remember a while back that Mastercard was going to start charging extra for fallback transactions. Most places just do it because they want your business....

So merchants can refuse you swiping your card, that's disappointing. If this starts to happen often I'll need to get a new card. Crazy though, since this one is less than a year old.

Also had the issue, used to keep my cards in my back pocket. Anyway if you go to Telkom ask them for their empty sim card holders.

My credit card spends most of its time in a wallet with my other cards. What do the sim card holders do?

Wonder what happens with persons who have a habit of tapping their CC's on the counter while waiting in a queue? I like the idea of not having to swipe the card or putting it into a card reader but, really not comfortable with the technology at this stage.

But then it is only this time around that I have received cards capable of using "tap and go/pay".

why are you so paranoid?

Tap and pay logo was shown on terminal.
He told me management forbid them to do that payment method
Tried same garage again.
Helped by same guy guy wanted to refuse again as i wanted to tap my phone . He chatted to another guy and was told it alowed now :)

It's the smart way to be. Who will be responsible for any fraudulent sub R200 (seems that's the pin-less limit) transactions on such an account ?
If i understand correctly i tap r150 at shop a then a few minutes later i tap another r150 at a different shop it will ask pin at 2nd shop
