How does one go about getting a diagnostic?

For years I have struggled with Concentration and staying focused. I enthusiastically jump into project after project into project with out finishing anything properly. When I do start something I lose motivation almost as fast as I felt getting motivated in the first place.

I feel that I have lived with too long now and its effecting my personal life and my professional life. I need to talk to somebody who can guide me and assist me with staying focused.

Where does go to get tested?
Who can I speak too?
Is there medication that can assist?

I have a short attention span, my doctor diagnosed me last year and told me ooh a new website

I too have this problem, my solution do everything as fast as possible

A Psychiatrist should be your first port of call for a proper diagnosis, they can also prescribe medication if that is what you want. There are some schools of thought that you can self treat to an extent through a eating plan.

Check out adult ADHD and see if you can relate to the symptoms.

I think the average person will complain that they have poor concentration.

Uhm this really isn't a medical condition like adhd. So I guess just focus ? Or something something more challenging

I do it too. The initial challenge makes your brain feel awesome, but once you solve the bigger issues, you find the smaller ones to just be mundane. You start looking for other challenges while the small boring stuff really doesn't interest you that much and you end up dragging it out till it affects your job performance.

The trick is to just do it. Really. It is. Just begin and say "for the next 15 minutes all I'm doing is this boring piece of work" until you finish it.

We people with short attention spans should stand up and admit that we are ones responsible for derailing threads

I find alternating between multiple things helps me to focus.
Strangly I figured this out after realising I dont normally have that issue at work and trying to work out why.
Turns out I always have multiple very different usually critical things going on at work and I thrive in that environment.
Just dont give me easy monotonous tasks cause I will strugle to get that done.

Are you also a procrastinator? I have a good friend who cannot get anything finished. He had a 3/4 built garage with no electricity, a wall with wires for the lights still to be put up, an electric lock on gate but no strike, on and on. His wife was at her wits end, so I placed a white-board in the garage and we prioritised the tasks and also sorted the jobs into quick ones and slow ones and put completion dates on them. So far (after 18 months) 16 of the 38 jobs have been done. The first 4 were way beyond the specified date, but the last 12 were completed more or less on time. It took him 12 months to have the alternator in the car fixed, but that was taken to the repair depot today and is being fitted tomorrow.

I find it doing a near impossible task in a really short time than a simple task in a reasonable time period

Do you mean you can complete a difficult task, but not simple ones? That means you are getting distracted since the simple task is not fully occupying your mind. I think you will have to try and be more determined to complete the simple task. This is similar in a way to stopping smoking or going in a diet. Will power is the old-fashioned way of putting it
