Hello all

Need some advice. What is the best short term investment option.

I have a 80 k and need to invest it for 14-30 Months. The money is to be used for a flat deposit.

Anything better than normal bank 6% -7%

Thanks

Captitec offers something like 8-9% on their fixed term savings account, if i remember their ad correctly.

if you have the money already why not just purchase the flat

bump.

I'm taking a look at either the FNB Money Maximizer (7.4%. convenient, but the R100k start-up might be an issue) or the Alan Gray Money Market Fund (~6.7%. last 3 years)

With regards to the Alan Gray option, do I understand the costs correctly as 0.25% of the capital + VAT charged annually? So on R100000 it's R250 + 14% VAT? FNB want R65/m account fee so R780/y.

For short term try African bank very good returns. Don't invest in them for longer then 2 years though

FNB 32 Day Notice account? No need for R100k up front and better rates than the Allan Gray option.

There is also a 7 day notice that looks pretty similar. Could always start there and migrate to the maximizer when I've saved enough.

Problem with the maximiser is when you drop 1c below R100k you stop earning interest.

Bear in mind that if you sell stocks before the 3 year holding period you will be subject to a high Income Tax rate and not Capital Gains Tax which is very much lower. Just a thought.
