The government wants to shut down 2G and 3G in order to make spectrum available. Do you think it is a good idea?

Will this affect any legacy devices you might have?

No, 2G saves battery life when im on Wi-Fi.

If they really need to get rid of either 2G/3G then they should shut down 2G.

This would be great but would have to extend to iot devices as well.
There are loads of fleet vehicles out there still running on GPRS trackers, and the fleet operators are not going to upgrade them. Even in developed countries like the UK they still have these devices in use, some are 15 years or older. I know this since I work with these devices on a daily basis.

What will happen in all likeness is that all circuit switched services like voice, SMS, USSD etc will be disabled and the portion of 2G spectrum that does remain, as small as possible, will be used for low speed single slot TDMA data comms.

I didn't know this was possible. Learn something new every day

Tech junkies will have to take a back seat to the too-many-poor, but if we must then 2G only.

Will they though? Unlikely for a long time given the history.
