Should I buy a secondhand Scenic

New Yaris is coming soon so I am not sure if you should get the current on. Fiesta is definitely a good contender - the styling is fresh and they are very reliable cars. If the Corsa is not too your taste I would definitely say Fiesta, but you really should have the i20 on the shortlist. Its one of the few cars that offer better value for money than the Corsa. You can get an i20 1.6 with all the goodies for about the same price you'd pay for a Corsa Essentia 1.4 (no trip computer, only front electric windows, no USB)
 
If you're looking at R44k or less, try a Honda Ballade. They're bulletproof and don't seem to attract the same 'attention' as citi golfs.

I thought student cars are supposed to be compact. (for Tukkies BTW)
 
renaults are french and the french are only good at food and fashion. anything else from them is pathetic. french cars will always have issues. rather go for a japanese car like a mazda or toyota as they are reliable and hold their value well. they are also cheaper to service and dont have issues with parts. little german cars are also good.

The only problem with Ballades are that they're pretty long, otherwise just as wide as a Polo. I've had the opportunity to park at UCT and at UP with it, never had to do parallel parking at a university. UCT parking bays are extra narrow though, that's why Ballade/Polo or smaller.
 
OK, so no more French cars... so I don't suppose I can ask about the Uno :confused:

Can I ask why nobody has mentioned the Picanto?
 
The new 1.2 Picanto and i10 are excellent cars with everything you need.
There are a couple of threads in this forum on them, and some happy buyers too.
 
picantos are useless and unos are even worse. the aygo is a brilliant car and so is the i10 except the i10 has more bang for your buck
 
Better late than never - have owned 2 Renault Scenics - wouldn't touch another one with a barge pole - (long story about how I ended up with the 2nd one).

They're great up to about the time the warranty runs out - then the problems start - starting problems, electrical glitches, engine mountings, etc. Definitely don't buy one 2nd hand.

Have you considered the Fiat Panda - now that is one of the best purchases I ever made - after 5 years I passed it on to my niece (also at UCT coincidentally) and it's still going strong 2 years later. Light on fuel, reliable and surprisingly spacious.

The Aygo has one of the cheapest interiors I have ever seen - it really feels crap and looks crap too. People sometime say that the Corsa D has a plasticy interior and yes, it does have a lot of it, but the quality is good and it looks passable. The Aygo is no where near the i10 in terms of quality or performance and I seriously think a Picanto (even the old one) will give it a run for its money.
