Should I buy Rasberry pi 3?

I upgrade my pi2s to pi3, can't say I notice any performance improvement running kodi.

If you're in a hurry, don't use RS. The other 2 keep stock, so if they have any, they'll ship immediately. As I discovered when I bought my Pi3 from RS, they order from the UK when they receive your order. (although that may have been a timing issue cos I ordered just after launch. They could have local stock by now. If you're not prepared to wait 10 - 14 days tho, I'd just get it from one of the other 2.
In terms of performance, I use mine with OpenELEC, and it does everything perfectly except H265 (which nothing runs, really). If you use emby server you can transcode on the fly tho.

Netflix I think there is a plugin, showmax no, DSTV now no. Will you need any of those apps, I doubt it

I tried OSMC on my Pi3, jeesh, it sucked balls, still running my Pi2 at the moment. I see there is an update to OSMC, will reload and test again.
Why not just use the OpenELEC image for the Pi3?
Well, you can control Kodi with a phone app (2 actually, take your pick), so only need a keyboard and mouse for initial setup.
Oh yes, and Kodi supports CEC, so your TV remote may work too. My TV remote doesn't, but my AV remote does. Not all buttons work tho, so ymmv obviously. I still prefer my old faithful - Logitech Harmony God of remotes
Case is useful, if only for dust protection. I just took the standard official case. Not the prettiest, but it's hidden behind the tv anyway.
Edit: Forgot the most important thing - Power supply. I use a Samsung Galaxy S4's one. It's a 2.1Amp. Works well but the official one would probably be better (2.5Amp)

OpenElec is great. Also try http://www.eexpress.co.za Electrocomp express, if you are in JHB, you can collect from them.
If your TV supports HDMI-CEC then you can use your TV remote on the PI (it works via the HDMI connection) My Samsung supports it.
I would get a case and PSU, they are pretty cheap.

1x Raspberry PI V3-B (or V2-B)
1x Casing (Any V1-B+, V2 or V3 will do, V3 just moves the LED's)
1x 8GB MicroSD card (if you do not have one spare... + MicroSD to SD holder)
1x USB SD Card Reader / Writer (if you do not have one or you laptop does not have one build in)
1x USB Infrared receiver + remote (Not needed if you have a HDMI-CEC TV, i.e. Samsung, LG, Sony)
Full sized HDMI, also has LAN and wifi and Bluetooth.
Mostly host my media from a server, but haven't had any issues running off an external HDD plugged into onboard USB, even tho my PSU is "underpowered"

There is no Netflix app or plugins for kodi. Same with showax and most streaming services. I only use it for local media I host on a couple microservers. You will be disappointed if you hope to have Netflix and similar, rather go with something like a roku for that.
