long story short...
So i was around a month late on renewing my car license when i got pulled over
the Fine came to R850
When i viewed my fine on ARRTO and payfines i see they got 3 of the 6 diggits/letters wrong on my license plate so the fine doesnt even match my car...

grounds to contest the fine or not?

If you don't have a car with the registration number quoted, just send it back saying so. Do not say you got are guilty, just you see a fine on your name for a car you don't own. If you want to get rid of your money, I'll provide my banking details.

the only option i see on the site is to "contest in court"

If they gave you a proper fine, i.e. notice to appear in court not the little pink slip then go to the traffic court mentioned before the due date and make a written representation to the prosecutor there. (They normally have a form for that.) They will either cancel the summons or reduce the fine.

Then go to the prosecutor and tell what I told you to say. They will have to prove the quoted reg no belongs to you, which they cannot, hence the charge will be withdrawn. If there is no court date on the 'ticket' you got, you can wait for the summons, which is extremely unlikely to ever materialise.

Also take nenewed license with , not disk ( can be fined for not displaying) , most prosecuters or magistrates will atleast give substantial discount maybe even cancel fine

yer so if you have time to contest in court go do so, you know your disc was expired ;)
yeah it was expired. But should anyone really be paying when they cant even get 6 diggits/letter correct standing just 1 meter away. i mean 1 mistake sure...but 3?
