Good day, I'm due for an upgrade today, I initially wanted the iPhone but the problem is finding stock.

I currently have Galaxy S, so I need something that's better, and I have set my eyes on Galaxy Tab, I'll mainly use it for watching movies, viewing powerpoint sideshows and reading pdf files and on occassions record private videos.

What are your experiences with the Galaxy Tab? Will it be a good upgrade, or should I just get another android phone?

Well its pretty much just a really big android phone at quite a price I would say. So if you looking for a bigger screen then sure :)

Wait for the Xoom or Galaxy tab 2 with Honecomb 3.0. But be prepared to pay more

If you want a tablet, the only presription should be a Xoom.

I think it's due out in SA in April right? Or was that the Atrix?

Sorry in May. That's a wait. (Article from MyBB)

Shitty thing I'm coming across now about the Xoom and Atrix is that they're not compatible with the 900MHz band which Cell C's HSPA network uses...

I wouldn't get it.. not with the new one on the way which looks much much better

Well you have a Galaxy S. The Tab is the same thing with a bigger screen. Same hardware inside, with some changes due to the size of course.
Better to wait for a 10-inch Tab I think. Otherwise you have two high-end Android devices that do pretty much the same things.

I would rather wait, samsung releasing their honeycomb tablets soon and rumours of a 8.9 inch samsung tablet to be unveiled shortly which may be the perfect size in my opinion.

For reasons listed in your post...get it. But there is iPad2 if you willing to wait

i deliberately chose a 7" (Tab) vs iPad (10"). don't know what relative pricing is today but think about this.

personally both the xoom and tab don't appeal to me due to size. but then you have to consider that they will both run honeycomb which is tab optimized. samsung have not confirmed the gt will get honeycomb. though i am more than positive if you root it, you will have Honeycomb.

i bought mine when the choice was iPad or GT. For me the gt worked. I don't remember seeing anything that suggested samsung has aggressively cut the price since ipad has been released here. so not knowing how much it costs today, it is difficult to endorse.

i see someone above mentions an imminent 8.9" tab. iif the release date is within your time period, i would wait to see. i can put my GT in my pocket. But if 8.9" can do the same, i'll be getting the 8.9" form factor.

The tab is a great product. Good design, screen etc. The software is Android 2.2 which is kinda lame but hey. The price is really absurd. With the iPad going for ~R4k, the tab should cost even less. Instead it's more.

Its embarrasing how Samsung cant put a tablet out at $500,

I wouldnt get the SGT simply because of what ive read and heard on engadget podcasts. if its just for watching content then thats fine. but anything else, wait for a tablet made to be a tablet from scratch

If you have to have a 7" then wait for the Playbook.

Like Steve Jobs said, the 7" size doesn't make sense for most people. I understand it's very cool, but his logic is pretty sound. Most tablet owners have a smartphone. You can't compete with the smartphone in terms of size or weight.

I wouldn't, for starters the new 10 inch galaxy tab is coming soon and the wifi only version is going to be only $400, but its not going to be running honeycomb. I would rather get the Xoom or the Ipad 1 or 2. I prefer the ipad but its personal prefrence and depends on what you want to do on your tab.
