Hi Guys

I Just wanted to ask a quick question... I currently have an Android phone... (Desire) but I would like to upgrade to the Iphone 5 when I am due in Jan.
Thing is...How much bandwidth do you use? I am with MTN and just worried that the bandwidth charges will be monstrous?

Any comments?

Why not wait till Jan and see what is available, but I am pretty sure the iPhone 5 won't use more data that your Desire.

If you want an iPhone get the iPhone, you really should know what you want in a phone.

Thing is I would really like an Iphone....but I dont wanna pay 300 buks for data pm...
Currently I switch off my data on my Desire....which IMO defeats the point of having a smart phone...so I dont want to have to do this with my next phone..
Do you guys have data bundles? I wish Cellc gets the new Iphone...their data is cheap as hell.

If you have wifi at home then get the iPhone.. My iphone doesn't randomly use data if you know what I mean... It uses data when I go on youtube, download an app etc but I try do those things while I'm around a wifi hotspot.

My GF's Hero eats up data and she only uses it for FB... not sure where its all going, she hardly even browses the net.

Jan is too far away.not worth the stress.

I like to make my mind up beforehand...keeps me from making the wrong choice... I have wireless at home yeah... and at work...thats how I use my phone atm.

Android or iPhone - if you dont have access to wifi - you shouldnt be getting these phones

So, to answer you question, get the iphone - but its going to use data just like an android device would.

Ah then what you worried about data for... get the iPhone... Heck even get the iPhone 4.

So you're basically targeting what will likely be the most expenisive phone when its released, but you balking at the idea of paying too much data.

This thread doesn't make any sense... As DrYes said you want the most expensive phone, but don't have wifi or want to pay for data. There should be minimal diff between data usage on iphone/android. Then you want to downgrade from a desire which you've basically killed by turning off the data to an iphone. Is it because you want a shiny mp3 player rather? I think you should get an ipod and a nokia. Or maybe a blackberry. BB seems to make the most sense for you since you don't have access to data.

when i got my htc magic, i was only just making it to the end of the month with my 250mb bundle. after "upgrading" it to the "latest" android version (from 1.5 to 1.5), i decided to not enable the facebook feature on the phone. at the end of the month i ended up with around 100mb of data. the rest i used on browsing with opera mini, downloading apps, etc. what i like about android, is that there are tons of free apps and they aren't over 10mb.

i think you should get an android phone, unless you can win an iphone, then you can sell it and buy data bundles for your android. :D

I need the remote desktop functionality for work and no...I will never in my life take a blackberry...half of my day consists of fixing BES Server issues.
Again....I dont mind paying for the data I just dont want to end up paying R500 pm for my data...which is what I would pay for the phone on contract..which would just be ludacris... the point of this thread was to find out how much current IPhone users are paying for 3G data pm....thats all...

My iPhone contract came with 250 megs of data per month and Vodacom just announced that they'd doubled the data packages for iPhone users from August 1st... Contract prices stay the same, just twice the data :D

That said, TeamViewer FTW for remote desktop access.

On most of the machine's I need to login to citrix(****rix...lol) sessions...so I use the citrix app...

YouPorn

I have wireless at work and at home and have a bundle for when I'm neither of those places. Don't spend much but obviously you will want to avoid anything besides simple browsing when you're not in a Wifi area..
