To upload multiple files. Lots of downloads also come archived to decrease sizes. What even is the point of still archiving things?
I used to assume the same, but it isn't so. Many Envato Elements archives cannot be extracted by 7zip for some reason, and I've encountered occasional issues with packages sent by clients and their agencies.Just install 7zip.
No need to pay for a zip program.
I did. It's not expensive and it's an excellent product. I'd rather pay a few bucks to support its development than be pestered by a notice every time I unzip anything.I don't think anyone has bought winrar in it's 30 year existence![]()
The extension is meaningless. most all archive software opens most all archive types.can't create rar files though...
Doesn't much matter if few, if any, recipients can use the format. Sending anything but a .zip for work purposes would probably result in having to awkwardly resend the file as it should have been originally sent.
Depends on the use case. I've used it at work before compressing a database backup that had to be sent out every now and then etc. The better compression made using .7z a no brainer.Doesn't much matter if few, if any, recipients can use the format. Some people are weird about large email attachments. What even is the point of still archiving things?
