Should I see a doctor??

haha sorry to disappoint, nothing life threatening (He thinks its probably this viral thingi).

And thanks everyone for the concern! The reason why it took so long was because they had to do a blood test as the ECG did pick up that my heart had a defect or something. Dont really know all the terminologies cause when a doctor talks all I hear is "fancy word fancy word you going to live." I was given pills to help with the pain and discomfort.

To summaries, it was a very memorable birthday.

Define: "defect"

We talking a normal electrical anomaly (premature ventricular contractions/premature atrial contractions) or valvular defects like mitral valve prolapse/fibrillation/whatever? O.o'

I want details, damnit!

Well, at least now you know you'll live and that you have an anomaly with your heart >.>

lol now you speaking doctor, don't know what half those words means. I think it is vavlular. All I know is that he did the ECG and said that he did pick up defect but he will only know, if it is cardiovascular related, if he did a blood test.

Think I'll head to be also, been a very eventful evening. Just wanna thank you guys again for all the advice. The peace of mind alone is worth the time wasted, AND I didn't even have to pay for it.

Well, I'm not a doctor but my family all have heart issues from one end of the spectrum to the other and, when I first felt my heart skip beats, I panicked like Hell and got an overnight degree in Wikiology, so I have a vague idea of what it all means and what it all entails.

As I said, my heart has an electrical anomaly in the left ventricle which fires off early, causing my heart to "pause" for a beat. It happens pretty rarely and I'm told that a large number of people experience electrical oddities in their hearts but are generally unaware of it. Some people are just more sensitive to it, I guess. I went for an echocardiogram to make sure that my heart is structurally healthy/normal and I was made to run like a crazy person on a treadmill for a stress ECG. During heavy exercise my heart is fine but during the rest phase afterwards is when it happens (or when I royally freak myself out ala anxiety attack). Regardless, all is normal and I was told that it's entirely benign and nothing to worry about and I've been quite happy knowing that since :D

However, I'm fortunate because I have a pretty healthy lifestyle (vegetarian, get reasonable exercise, don't smoke or drink) so there are no factors which will ever aggravate it.

Point is, I wouldn't worry. Worst case scenario you've stumbled onto something early that might've saved your life. That's a pretty excellent thing in itself. Imagine finding out too late or dying as a result--not exactly pleasant outcomes.

Nope. I still find it frustrating knowing that there is a "fault" with one of my organs and I know that I'll have it for the rest of my life, so I know how it feels. These things never 'get better.' If you take care of yourself it'll always stay the same, if you don't then it'll probably worsen :p At least you have the choice thanks to the awareness.

The thing to remember is that, all-in-all, you're probably quite lucky if you compare yourself to people with chronic illnesses :)

Also, if you've never been aware of it before then chances are pretty good it isn't a big deal anyway.

Oh, and forgive my rudeness... Happy birthday :D (I think my concentration got lost in the excitement :o)

all doctors on board. good for you on going to see the doctor. well done to our "doctors" for ordering you to go see the real life doctor and not thinking we are doctors. :D
 
So you had chest pain, difficulty breathing and the ECG picked up a "defect" and the doc still sent you home!!! :wtf:

I'd get that checked with another doc ASAP.

hehe. I have changed my one now as a few people uses the same one as me. I know have one that looks like a little robot chasing a butterfly. To cute for words! :-) Have not seen anyone else use it. :-)

Oh and PS: Glad the OP is Ok. :-)

I agree. I would get a second opinion.....from a cardio specialist me thinks to find out what this "defect" is that this casualty doctor prescribed some meds for and sent the OP home.
