So I just got a 10 Mbps line and frankly I expected more. I thought it would be around 9 Mbps but I'm only getting 8.

MWEB says it's acceptable as I have a 10 Mbps DSL line with Telkom. If I upgrade to a 20 Mbps VDSL line will my speeds increase noticeably?

17% overhead on ADSL

10 - 17% = 8,3

So you won't get much more than 8 Mbps. Don't know if the overhead is different for VDSL, don't think so. Also check your line stats to see if you will be able to achieve 20 Mbps.

You'll also need a new modem for VDSL... And you still won't get a full 20Mb.

But before all that you'll need to check if your area even supports VDSL, it's not very widespread

As others have said, you have ADSL overhead to take into account. So 8Mb/s is about right.

It looks like VDSL overhead is around 4-5%. I get just over 19Mbps @ VDSL 20Mbps

When it was still sync'ing @ ADSL2+ 20Mbps, max throughput was ~17Mbps.

If you can get 20Mbps, just do it. Its only R75 p/m more and totally worth it.

What kind of a question is this?
Is 20 bigger than 10?

VDSL is always better if your line can support it.
Faster download and upload.

I'm on an uncapped account so I'm not going to get the full 20 Mbps. Just want to push my speeds up to a 10 Mbps not just 8 mbps.

Uncapped should not change your lines speed unless you are throttled or shaped.

It will remove the overheads though. So he will get the full 10Mb/s of his account, instead of the 8Mb/s he is getting now.

I'm trying to understand how that was relevant to my post?
How will an uncapped account remove his overheads?

You missed the OP I take it.

The OP has 10Mb/s line, but only getting 8Mb/s even though he has a 10Mb/s uncapped account thanks to overheads.

So he wants to upgrade his line to 20Mb/s while using his same 10Mb/s uncapped line to remove the losses due to overheads and get the full 10Mb/s that his account is capable of.
