Should I upgrade to VDSL?

I'm on an uncapped account so I'm not going to get the full 20 Mbps. Just want to push my speeds up to a 10 Mbps not just 8 mbps.

Uncapped should not change your lines speed unless you are throttled or shaped.

You missed the OP I take it.

The OP has 10Mb/s line, but only getting 8Mb/s even though he has a 10Mb/s uncapped account thanks to overheads.

So he wants to upgrade his line to 20Mb/s while using his same 10Mb/s uncapped line to remove the losses due to overheads and get the full 10Mb/s that his account is capable of.

Follow the thread.
I responded to his statement regarding uncapped.

So I just got a 10 Mbps line and frankly I expected more. I thought it would be around 9 Mbps but I'm only getting 8.

MWEB says it's acceptable as I have a 10 Mbps DSL line with Telkom. If I upgrade to a 20 Mbps VDSL line will my speeds increase noticeably?

So from his posts you can see that he only wants to upgrade his line and not his account to remove the overheads.

Anyway you're making a mountain out of a molehill.

This guy understands me perfectly.

1.8 km from the exchange. Is that good enough?

If you want VDSL it depends on the exchange, also depends on the exchange if you can get 20Mbps.

Could you post your line stats so that we can see if the line itself is able to support it. Also, please post the first 6 digits of your landline, e.g. 021 550 (not the full number as you will get spammed, this is a public forum)

I wasn't making anything out of anything; I was clarifying because you seemed to misunderstand my post.
He asked a question relating to VDSL and I answered.

Just leave it please, we all interpret things differently and this way we got two correct answers depending on how you look at the question.

You could try going to 20Mbps, if possible ask if they can custom sync you at ~16Mbps which should be more than enough to max out your 10Mbps uncapped line (not sure if that is possible with the new system). If you go for the 20Mbps you might have the line dropping every couple of hours, not sure until you try it. Make a request with Telkom/whoever is managing your line.

If I'm on a 20 Mbps adsl line how much would it cost? The Telkom website only shows me costs for VDSL.
