Should I upgrade?

Silly comparison but what is your 3dmark06 score with the 2 (single 4870 16k ish)

I know it is not gaming comparison but no time for that right now :(

I think reinstall you OS and clean drivers, the problem could also be if you not using a legal version of vista

Yea QX the only problem with 3dmark is lets say a guy who has a q6600 @ 3.0ghz running dual 8800gtx's will have a lower score than a guy running an amd 4870 with a q9650 @ 4.0ghz.

What spec pc did that 4870 get 16k?

Ghost using an illegal OS will not mess anything up man.

With my E8400 at default speeds I got like 15K, if I remember correctly. But, yeah, I don't believe in 3dmark, as your cpu makes a bigger difference than your display cards.

and that is when I am playing warcraft online and have gtalk open and the pc has been running for 3+ days.

I once had a buddy who was "in love" with vista. He even tried to convert me. After a few weeks though he went back to xp. You see, he likes keeping his pc on for days at a time never switching it off. Vista didn't allow him to do that. Every few days he'd get the BSOD.

So yeah. He upgraded to xp.

OMW qwik thats the biggest load of crap i have ever heard, maybe he had a problem and did not take the time to figure it out.

I run my vista install just about 7 days a week, with windows xp it would slow down after a few days and i would reboot to get it back up to speed, but with vista its always fast and never gets bogged down nor do i need to restart to reclaim the speed.

Also you know how after 6-12 months xp starts running slow and like crap? vista just keeps giving you the love, does not slow down after months of use like xp, which for me is great because now i don't need to fresh install every 3-6 months .

Anyways back on topic, if your getting 15k with a dual core man, you'll get closer to 18-19k on a quadcore with 3dmark.

I don’t personally care much for 3dmark, but if it helps? I get 18700 with 8600GT XXX and a duel core, running a asus mobo and 4 gig of value ram.

Stick with what you got, do a clean install of Vista, get everything fresh and see if the problem persists... Reinstalling Vista is gonna work you out a lot cheaper then buying a 4870 and getting rid of two beautifull cards in the process!

That is why I don't feel the need to format, cause the pc is still running strong. Superfetch is disabled though.

I don't care about 3dmark scores as well. Which would you say is faster, 2x 8800GTS 512 or 2x 8800GTX?

doubt there will much difference but the 8800gtx's will be faster.

Look 3dmark is just to measure performance, you should run 3dmark and post your score plus pc specs.

The dual GTX setup by far. It has a wider memory bus on each card, with more ram, which is crucial for some things.

I love my GTX and can't see any reason to change it since I don't have any games that really stress it, apart from Crysis, which runs very nicely.

Concerning your errors, a fresh install like mentioned here may be the best bet, followed by service pack 1 before the Nvidia drivers. I'm also running 64 Bit Ultimate, but don't have SLI. Haven't had any errors, but then again I don't leave my machine on all the time either.

Hope you get it sorted out. :)

I am busy with a 11gig dl, so after that I can format. Then I will run 3dmark again and post it here.

The other think is, the 4870 are going for about R3600 and I don't think I can get more than that for my 2 cards if I wait any longer... And I can't pass them to my other pc, cause no SLI there...

K, soz, we assumed seeing as we were talking about 2006. I don't mean to be offensive.

Lol no offence taken, I’m pretty much a noob when it comes to performance testing/over clocking. I forgot to add a smiley face…here it is :D

Hi Guys,

I have 2x 8800GTX's running in SLI. I have the Asus II Formula board. Should I upgrade to a HD4870? Obviously I won't be able to CF it later on, but my GTX's aren't worth that much anymore... :(

What you need to do is, downgrade. Yes, it might sound "funny", but I feel that you are not appreciating your system anymore, and need to experience something else. So I will lend you my ATI 3D Pro Turbo PC2TV 4MB card. It is PCI (normal not PCI-e), so it will work even on your current system. After using it for a week, you will appreciate your 8800's so much more. You will really thank me for it.

PS: I can even upgrade you gradually by providing a 32MB () Nvidia TNT2 for another week of gaming pleasure.
