Should Liverpool fire Rafa?

The simple fact is before he came we had absolutely no hope of winning the Premier League or Champions League. Our team consisted of the likes of Igor Biscan and Milan Baros(to name but a few of the mediocre players that were at the club).

We are now fighting for both the League and Champions League titles. Even by my own account we have been piss poor for majority of the League season yet we still managed to keep up with United and Chelsea(up untill a few weeks ago at least)

We are on the verge of knocking a seemingly "unstoppable" Real MAdrid out while still level on points with Chelsea(who still has a shot at the title)

Rafa has had to work under very difficult circumstances, with owners who don't speak to each other and an incompetent Chief Executive(who has stuffed up alot of Rafas transfer targets). Once our boardroom problems have been sorted I can see things gettnig much better under Rafa.

Yes he has his irritating ways but you have to appreciate what he has achieved since taking over from Houllier.

Liverpool never ever had hope of winning the Premier League.

I dont think you were ever fighting for the premier league.

Is that good enough for you Pool fans?

i think he should go if after next season he doesn't win the league. He has had enough time to build the squad but didn't produce the right results in the league.major factor concerning that is: too many draws, lack of killing teams of, lack of strikers and natural finishers!.........oh and ofcourse LUCAS

Oh come off... You mentioning Fergies transfer dealings in the same breath as Rafa's is an insult. Even though I think Sir Alex is a pr1ck of note and I wish he would just retire ALREADY - his top ten flops (Kanchelskis, Veron, Barthez, Bosnich et al) still didn;t have much of an impact on their winning ways. Bellamy, Lucas, Voronin... Need I say more. They were his choices as far as I know...

This is CLASSIC

Mark Gonzalez (£4.5m): “Only if you know nothing about football could you say he is not good enough to play in the Premiership,” fumed Benítez after the speedy winger was refused a work permit in 2005. A year later he got his permit. A year after that he had been sold to Real Betis. Apparently he was not good enough to play in the Premiership.

if you comparing Fergie to Rafa then you have no idea ,as you cannot compare the 2 fergies budget compared to rafa's is just not in the same league ,the only 1 time that rafa was able to get his no 1 target was Torres and look what he did to liverpools team ,every other player besides torres was no 3,4 on his list because they did not back him for his no 1 targets.

EG1: go read what Vidic said recently ,he had agreed to join liverpool and everthing was sorted out the club had to agree his buyout which was 3m and Parry did nothing for a whole week Vidic was waiting for Liverpool to agree with his club,Manure found out what they were paying and doubled the pice to 6m and off went Vidic to Manure

Eg2:Simao had agreed to join Liverpool and was on his way to the airport ,when Benfica upped the price by 500k ,parry said No and rafa had to sign Jermaine Freakin Pennant

Eg3:Dani Alves ,Benitez was on the verge to sign and unknown Dani alves from villareal for 6m when no one new about him ,he had agreed personal terms then like all clubs do Villareal wanted 1m more ,parry again refused to pay the extra 1m and walked away and rafa had to sign kromkamp

Eg4: Samuel Eto ,when owen decided to not to sign his contract and that he wanted to go to Madrid ,Madrid offered 8m and a player in exchange ,Rafa identified Eto as he was his coach in the Madrid youth team and Madrid owned majority stake in him and he was only on loan at majorca ,Madrid then said No ,if you want Eto we will only pay you 5m instead of the 8m parry refused and we had to settle for Nunez and 8m where as we could have had argubly the best striker of the last 4-5 years

Eg5:Dimitar Berbatov ,if you have read Carra's autobiography you would no that he was on the verge of signing for liverpool before he even went to spurs ,again Berbatov was ready, liverpool had to agree with his club for only 8m, again parry wanted to pay only 6m and Leverkusen said no again rafa had to settle for 2nd choice which was Morrientes

Kun Aquerro said that he was sure that he was going to join Liverpool as Rafa spoke to him a few times before and assured him that the club was going to make a offer for him liverpool offered 8m for the youngster ,Atleti offered 12m Kun prefered liverpool but parry again refused to match atletis offer ,now tell me what is he worth today 40-50mil

look at all the players Rafa has missed out on due to and incompetent Chief Executive always taking his own time sorting out transfers and refusing the managers input on transfers

Now tell me this when Has Fergie ever missed out on his top targets ;)

Rafa is doing and awesome job with the resources that he has ,a recent premiership survey revealed that Liverpool's Squad is the 5th most expensive in the league Behind Chelsea,Manure,Spurs,Man City  so his Liverpool team is punching above their weight so to say ;)

Get over it. People get "stolen" from clubs all the time. Look no further than what Chelsea does to ManYoo. Even if Rafa got Vidic, how often would he have played? He would probably have lasted for a season at most before being sold off again.

Well said Guru.
The signings of Torres, Mascherano and Keane was a step in the right direction, but unlike Chelsea and United's managers Rafa doesnt have the luxary of splashing out 30 odd million for a player.

Dany Alves never played for Villereal and never wanted to goto Liverpool. If i remember correctly Sevilla bought him for 2 million. Sold him to Barca last season for 32 million.

Sevilla hit the jackpot with his transfer.

Kun was never going to goto Liverpool. Atletico paid 20 million for him as a youngster, there was no way Pool was going to match that.

We were on the verge of signing Alves two or three season ago Genius. Only for Parry the clown to mess it up. Same goes for Simao. As for Kun, Rafa thought he wasn'tworth the risk for the ammount that his South American club wanted.

exactly ,genius wouldnt know about liverpool wanting to buy Alves because no one knew about him at the time he was only at Seville for 6 months when Benitez indentified him ,as for kun Benitez said that to the media but carra let it be known in his book that Benitez was fuming because he missed out on Kun

@genius atleti paid 12m pounds which equated to 20m euros at the time ;)

dude ,read again the post is not about clubs stealing prospects its about the conditions rafa has had to work with ,having a useless CEO taking his own time doing deals ,without consulting the manager imagine fergie identified Berbatov as his no 1 target then the CEO goes and buys Bent do you think fergie would be a happy chappie

Chelsea would have gotten Pato if Kenyon wasnt such a tight-fisted prat. Recommended by Piet De Visser of all people (the dude who discovered Ronaldo and Romario) and Kenyon messed up. Still doesnt mean a thing.

All those players you mentioned could have been replaced by someone else - who might not have been as good, but definitely would have done the job better than the flops he bought.

Besides which - he is one of the most tactically astute managers on the planet (a goal.com article quote: rafa beat ramos around the head with the tactical textbook:)) but he lacks guts - which is shown by his not being able to kepe his lead at the top. No going for the jugular and a side that looks like it is afraid of losing as opposed to thinking of winning. bah i could go on all day, but its not worth it.

i really dont care either way. My team have enough problems as it is. Malouda anyone?

The defence of Rafa Benitez is absolute nonsense. If, as everyone keeps saying, that parry blocked every major transfer, why didn't Benitez just walk out? Plenty of managers have done that before, and if Rafa is so highly thought of, he could've found a job anywhere, including his own country. And please, don't call it loyalty to the club, because he still hasn't signed a new contract.

His lack of control stems from not fighting for what he wants. I know that Mourinho, Wenger, Ferguson, and any other manager would not take what he does lying down.

I'd agree that Rafa is an excellent tactical manager which is why Liverpool have what is in fairness an excellent European record under Benitez, but he doesn't seem to understand what is required tactically to be able to win the Premier League, and he sets his sides out far too defensively to be able to break down teams that come looking for a point. And that's where the difference is in the Premier League. Liverpool should look to impose their tactic on other teams rather than be responsive.

I'm a little wary about that list of players Rafa could supposedly have had. Seems very anecdotal.

Every club has ''players'' that they ''would'' have signed.
Ronaldo for Real :D
Ribbery for Man City
Giggs for Inter
Quesremo for Inter :P

oh which reminds me what is happening with Quesremo for Chelsea? Is he going to flop at the third country??

He was pretty decent last night. Nothing spectacular though... solid performance (a 7 rating). Hoping that he will do better on a dry surface, last nights game was flooded!
