I am pretty sure the only cash cow that Multichoice relies on at the moment is SuperSport. Imagine if SuperSport had their own streaming service that is completely independent of Multichoice - what would you pay for a monthly subscription service to SuperSport?

It's just temporary for now, and MC seem to still have some say in it...

“We are considering the court’s decision to grant the order requiring us to carry the four eMedia channels for a limited period of six months while the Competition Commission conducts its investigation,” the company said.

R499 a month and I sign up.

Main reason MC want these channels gone is to stop the wider choice of movies on the lower tiers, I'm sure of it.

Local, yes. Streaming services? No...the likes of Netflix and AMazon Prime should simply withdraw any and all approval to run their apps on the DSTv decoders. Give them the middle finger as much as DStv is trying to do to them (while cozying up to them!)...

Only ever watch golf and tennis channels. Nothing else, and also on someone else's account. I would not even pay for that. So, I do not mis any cancelled channels.

Here's what I don't get.

They want peeps that can afford it to go for higher packages, or at least take the Movies+ add on for R100 p/m (doesn't look like that's doing too well).
But... they only offer the next movie channel from Compact level, and higher for the few more, and they hardly put new movies on the Movies+ channels and most are woke anyway (money going to local-is-lekker?)

It's not like there's no good movies produced now, box office shows there is. What do they do with the rest of them? Some get shown once or twice only after midnight (probably contractual), some go straight to Showmax, most not seen beyond box office..

Good business is one thing, this isn't that. So hope they win re gov. interference, hope they lose re subscriber fairness.
