Definitely not, it's simple you can't abide by the laws then you shouldn't get the same rights as the rest of us

It's called correctional services. The goal of a jail sentence is both punishment and making sure the inmate can rejoin society in a functional way and being allowed to vote is part of that.

Before we take prisoners' right to vote away we should throw non-voters jail.

And please: "they break the law so they shouldn't receive the same rights" is big talk coming from people who regularly exceed the speed limit, torrent movies, don't pay eTolls, don't declare cash income etc.

We can be civilized again when we are civilized again.
 
All the yes votes are ex crims, relatives of them, so's, or have deep rooted anti establishment issues.
 
People are forgetting something, prisoners are not removed from society. Criminal is a superfluous term. The thing is lots of communist regimes started by removing rights from people they considered unsavoury elements until those elements outweighed the rest of society so they could no longer fight back. If you say no, well then why don't you just give the ANC your house, your car, your job, your bank account, your life, because that's what you're agreeing to.

Once in prison you lose all rights. So no criminals should not be allowed to vote for their criminal cadres.
 
Question is irrelevant. The ruling party will allow them to vote if the majority of them will vote for the ruling party.
Any moral discussion or debate is pointless.

You should get real. It seems you think governments can do no wrong. This is something that can easily be abused. Payment for crimes you say? So how is not getting to vote payment? And who decides what's a crime?
 
People that don't pay income tax shouldn't be able to vote, so yes, crims shouldn't be able to vote generally.
 
To me, it does depend on the crime. You murdered someone - go fark yourself. You stole some stuff because you were desperate? I think there is hope, and you should be allowed to vote.

Of course, this is all a bit farcical when prisoners/criminals sometimes seem to have more rights than law abiding citizens.

All the people saying no on this thread are privileged high end criminals who can afford teams of lawyers get them off with a slap on the wrist.
