Anyone recommend a good doctor in the sandton/randburg area who could have a look at my shoulder? Serious joint pain, referring into all the muscles that attach there.

oh what fun

could very well be a tendon injury.
maybe try see a doc at sandton mediclinic. That way you should be close to xrays if the doc insists.

enquires should have the number, and your gps should have it under poi.

I'm thinking it's related to an AC separation back when I was a teenager. Pain seems to centre round there.
The docs at the mediclinic are a lottery :p Was hoping someone had some experience with one... Thanks though :)

not from jhb but had similar issues with muscle pain,i could not turn my shoulder to a certain point it felt like it was dislocating so eventually a few x rays later i had surgery to repair it. On the bright side i had +-4 months off from work paid leave but had to have the arm in a brace that was crap.
Good luck :)

ps... that was before i became indestructible had an argument with victor creed aka sabretooth :whistling::D

Have a 6th year Chiro diagnose it - they're recognised medical doctors getting experience to have the doctor thing be official. I can put you in contact with one, PM me if you'd like.

If it's a bone thing, they'll click you right and if it's a muscle thing they'll put you next door with the physios

The session will cost something silly like R60 and they can do xrays if needed. Prolly UJ or Wits medical campus.

AC joint disruption - when trauma leads to varying degrees of displacement of the distal clavicle from the local ligaments and muscles.
Osteoarthritis (OA) and/or osteolysis of the AC joint.

above is quoted...

And from what various sites say xrays are required.

cause of pain can be cause by a stretched ligament or tendon there. BUT it could be torn slight to bad.

If stretched then some meds and a sling. If torn you're likely to get cut.

So go see a doc for xrays, then let them tell you what they see...

above is quoted...

OA and distal clavicular osteolysis
Diffuse lateral shoulder pain and/or localised AC joint pain.
May be simply an ache in the deltoid area.
Often worse at night.
Local tenderness with exacerbation on passive and active shoulder movements.
Cross-adduction (ie reach over front of opposite shoulder) often worsens pain, and further passive cross-adduction by the examiner may aggravate this.[6]

Ja. That.
Also:
There may be marked tenderness of the AC joint and a visible/palpable 'step' if there is clavicular separation. This is best viewed with the arm adducted across the body.

I think that's the badger. Feckit.

Ah crap mate, sorry to hear this. I've lost count of the times I've popped my shoulder (damn indoor cricket!). It hurts like a mofo. Had an op in '05 but dislocated a few times since then. I've learnt to live with it now. As long as I can swing a golf club, I'm happy.

Good luck!

Intra-articular corticosteroids may provide relief of symptoms for up to three months in expert hands.

Amputation is probably the best route in these circumstances.

I already explored that option with my physio / chiro while she was releasing all the muscles in spasm because of this issue

During my extensive time in MSF i traveled throughout Africa, helping the poor and the needy as only a truly dedicated medical professional can. Unfortunately I've seen this often, and can confirm you have ebola.

Sorry for the bad news OP.

Be thankful that the doc isn't Ockie. :D

Man up!!! They might chisel away some bone and then put a bolt through the socket to hold it together for a while. Won't be as painful as what you pocket is going to hurt!!
