I have always been a side sleeper with my one arm under the pillow(sometimes on my stomach) and started getting pain in my shoulders. Must I just force myself to try and sleep in another position? Basically what worked for you? :(

Do you gym, play a sport where you "throw" like cricket, is it both shoulders?

Experienced shoulder pain from sleep the other day. Felt as if somebody stuck a marble underneath my shoulder blade.

You can try sleeping on your back, but then you'll snore like a boss. Or you can try and sleep on your stomach to take weight off your shoulder.

Try put a pillow underneath your chest so you aren't completely flat. Just to take some weight off the shoulder. If you're lucky enough to have a wife, that should work too :p

Not since the beginning of the year. One shoulder at a time hurts,so when I change position onto the other shoulder that starts hurting.

Maybe this will work! I snore like a boss regardless. :p

I also get it in my shoulders and I have to sleep on my side. I cannot sleep on my back or my stomach. I have a feeling though that my mattress has a part to play in it. I used to love hard mattresses but I just think my old aching body is just not enjoying them anymore so will probably have to invest in a softer mattress.

I had a shoulder issue, my right side from cricket ages ago.
It then healed and reappeared when gymming, when I didnt warm up correctly.

Now it's all gone thank goodness BUT if I try a throw something even a stone I can still feel it a little.

Go to a doctor and have x-rays done, it turned out my shoulder pain actually was slightly fractured vertebrae. Won't ever go away but now at least I know and know what meds do help it.

Recovery position

I'm a side-sleeper myself and I find this position the most comfortable to sleep in.

Your spine is in a neutral position and there is less pressure on the shoulders.

My god that woman is gonna wake up with a stiff neck! lol

I wish I could sleep on my back...but I just cant. Either on my side or tummy...only ways I can fall asleep.

I had that "Marble under the shoulder blade pain the other night actually". For me it was all posture and stress related. I had some serious knots in my mid and upper traps that were literally keeping me up at night. I have a few of those wooden carved massage utensils. On of them is a little like a knuckle duster with 4 squash ball sized parts that are meant to dig into those knots. As my wife is away I had to sort myself out..... :erm:
I basically wedged it between my back and the couch while watching tv and did some small rotations on my back. It took a few hours of this and a hot shower or two, but the tension went, and with it the incredible discomfort.

Pillow under your head Ockie. No stiff neck.

Or I put the pillow lengthwise or diagonal. Who said that you have to use a pillow in only one position?
