Hi Folks

There will be a short discussion/insert regarding the ICASA hearings and broadband on 702 at 16:50 onwards today. There will also be a discussion next week regarding the ICASA hearings and broadband in general. If you can tune it will be great…I spoke to the DJ and he is an experienced broadband user (ADSL & MyWireless) which should ensure an interesting discussion.

Maybe someone could tape the discussions and post an mp3. We don't get 702 here in Cape Town. (You are now all invited to post your general opinion about Cape Town)
 
Just heard that as well...DSL152 also did not feature prominently :D

Small discussion/insert is about right - the whole thing was monopolised by Telkomonopoly's Vuppy [variation of Guppy] :(.
 
Teklom's claims:
1 - ADSL service has improved significantly since Feb 2004 when first complaints were lodged.
2 - ADSL is a shared service, therefore capping must beimplemented as is done in UK + US.
3 - Feb 2005 saw the dropping of the cost of ADSL by 12%.
4 - There are now at least 60 000 ADSL users.
5 - MyADSL has voted Teklom ADSL best broadband provider.

After the Hearing ...
ICASA will publish a findings document. This will detail how to take the process forward.

ICASA implore people using ADSL to come forward and state their case at the hearing.
 
Next time MyADSL’s voice should be added to the list of responses. Unfortunately I did not have my mobile phone with me today which meant the DJ (Aki ??) could not reach me in time :(

Great that 702 cover this event though…the ADSL issue is now as prominent as it has ever been!

Agreed, great that Aki Anastasio [sp?] brought some public attention to the Public Hearings.

Methinks Aki/702 and other stations/journos need to post a thread on MyADSL :D (or send a private message to RPM :)).

Oh well back to 5fm on the radio (I actually couldn't get it tuned into 702 - too much interference from PCs etc - had to resort to Antfarm.co.za :D).

About the cap - this is interesting - if it's a window into the speech/submission that Telkomonopoly will be giving - capping does nothing to improve the ADSL connection of other subscribers - it just creates a feeding frenzy with everyone downloading at the same time at the end of each month & so far there doesn't seem to be enough reported degradation to suggest that it makes any difference to other subscribers.
