It's currently R280 excl VAT for the lithium cell, but since lithium can't be shipped by air anymore I get real nervous about stock levels with the agents. When their stock is done, I doubt there will be a reliable supply of these locally going forward. Also, bear in mind those cells have also been discontinued by Panasonic. So to avoid all that pain, just chuck it on the window sill a few days a month (apparently it'll run for 4 years on a charge but still)
I suppose working on watches is your business after looking at your posts - where are you based? Are you familiar with the movement in the Pulsar posted above?

Nah, it's just a hobby my man. I generally only play with mechanical watches, not Quartz ones at all. Only reason I'm aware of the above is because I have my Dad's Ecodrive here and his lithium battery failed because his watch was in the safe for years. Researching a little about it being dead made me aware of the issue.

Finally had a gap to fit the correct bezel insert to it, and the strap for it came in just this morning. I have a Jubilee bracelet (like it came with originally) but I’m liking the canvas more actually

And JUST as I finished posting this, another package arrived. They're both projects, albeit in a LOT better cosmetic condition than I thought; I'll not need to do anything externally to them as I initially planned to be honest. Even the crystals are 100%. The 007 needs a service and the 011 has the wrong bezel insert (which I ordered as you can see). I also got some genuine bracelets just for sh!ts, these aren't new but were refurbished. I'll try them on these watches but they'll likely get straps as well (I actually have something real funky on the way for the 011). Now, my SKX collection is complete, well mostly. Maybe look for a 013 but I'm still debating it as it's stupid expensive and needs more work than these.

SRPD59 is VERY similar it seems, with some advantages (much cheaper, hacking/hand winding/ steel bracelet, drilled lugs) and some disadvantages (100m, no locking crown).

I must say that those disadvantages like do not really make a difference to us desk divers….

All the SKX series disadvantages go away if you chuck the 7S26 movement and put in an NH36 movement. All the cosmetic/cool bits remain but you get manual winding and hacking. My cost on the NH36 movement is around 40GBP, so it isn't even expensive. I've got a few 7S26 based watches here and I've really been tempted to do it, but for some reason I want to preserve them as original. Silly, I know, as I can just store the old movements and return to original if I were to sell. Anyway, it's a very simple process to be honest.

Yeah. No issue swooping movements.

But it’s $400+movement vs $200 (excluding shipping and duties).

The SKX dial does also win hands down for me though (well the text and logo at least. Applied vs printed I like both)

Yes, but SKX

I’ve been eyeing those Presage watches as well, that one looks great! I’m just not much of a dress watch guy and would probably kill such a nice watch in a day. Take some nice pics for us in the sunlight tomorrow man

I was going to go with one of the presage cocktail time ones, but the Sharp Edged dial is just too lekker, and similar to a GS. Also the cocktail times don't come with a sapphire which is a must for me. I still really like the mockingbird one though.

I'll snap some of it on the leather strap this weekend, should the sun decide to make a rare appearance!

It's running but needs a full restore, was my grandad's. And a new strap...

If I can make a suggestion: I’d say to give the watch a proper service and exterior clean, maybe replace the crystal and strap, but otherwise leave it as that. The dial you not going to improve (without ruining it further) and the wear marks should remain. Going for a full polish will be going too far as it’ll lose all the wear that your grand dad has put there. It’s then not your grand dad’s watch, but some random old watch from the 60’s with a beat up dial. Finding parts in good cosmetic condition ain’t gonna happen, so you can only go so far anyway

We actually had a long chat about this very thing in the Horology thread. Anyway, it’s a very personal decision of course, one that only you can make. While I restore most of the ‘junk’ watches I come across, I have no sentimental connection with any of them as it’s something random I came across at some pawn shop. When it’s a sentimental piece, things change: you want to get it working reliably and clean it so you can use it. But with polishing it up you stand the chance of making it worse. It’s a delicate thing with such pieces.

So, I wanted a watch that I would never have to reset, wind up, replace batteries ..... it just had to keep time forever. The answer, a Solar Watch .....

Had this going on 4 years ............ never had to worry.
It does one thing and does it well..... tells me the time and I can choose where I am in the world and it will adjust.

Poor thing is only worn when I travel.
