Dauphine actually had those shaped hands named after them. It was pretty much copied by everyone. When I need something like that for a project I literally order Dauphine hands.

Just the glass if I remember (Need to replace it again, bumped it) . Got it for R700 at the Rosebank flea market from a watchmaker (His name is Bob and I have been to his house etc). His passion is actually old clocks (They are amazing and he has some from the 1800s and stuff) but watches sell.

Info I got from the watch forum I posted it on (its not an actual dauphine it seems).

Not at all.

The Swatch/Omega partnership has been one of the best marketing stunts in recent times. Point being its getting people interested in watches and they are not buying DW :laugh:

Someone remotely interested might start off with a cheapo moonswatch and progress to a Speedy later on.

Swatch own Omega anyway along with a lot of other luxury Swiss watch brands AFAIK

I've been a little excited for this one, especially since I've started collecting textured dial pieces. This one is an SE King Samurai (Sapphire crystal and Ceramic Bezel insert) with the STO Mantis dial. It's a big boy at just around 200gr, although it seems bigger on the pic than IRL. Having a few Turtles, I'd say it's in that same ball park from a wearability point and as big as I can comfortably go with my wrist size (around 200mm - 7 3/4")

Beautiful watch. I want one of these with the jubilee bracelet. Where can I get an affordable super turtle like yours locally? I once saw one at a shop in century city for R12k but it was the uglier looking version of the turtle.

Thank you! This one is what they call a slim diver (the case the SKX is based on) and is 42mm, the turtles are a bit larger at around 44mm. I'm not sure if any of the Seikos being sold new locally comes with the jubilee bracelets to be honest. You'll have a to pick a watch (entry level turtles do go for around R10-R12k new) and import a jubilee bracelet (anything from $60-100).

Your alternative is going the AliX route and pretty much make it your own style and will be cheaper. But it won't have the killer lume Seiko is famous for.

What’s everyone’s feeling on buying SKX’s? I ask because I was thinking of buying up a few tired ones and sorting them with a proper service and re-selling again. Just not sure if there’s any real local demand for them. Thing is, I’ve see what they go for on Japanese sites and eBay and I’m dumbfounded that even mediocre ones are getting into the R5k region. Is there a desire for these still, even at R8k for a nicely sorted one?

Yup, I’ve bought from them as well. Thing is they only have 009’s in stock (at $450 before shipping) and for some reason, the 007’s are more popular. If you can find a 007 new, you’re gonna pay at least $600 up for it. Yes, it boggles the mind.

I was just trying to figure out if there’s local demand for it for a little more sane pricing.
