Haven't worn a chronograph in any form for over 30 years.
I'm not a slave to time.
:)
Ha, no one here wears a time piece to strictly tell the time. It's Jewellery and a hobby - there's enough things around you all the time that tells better time than a wristwatch

If crystal is uncracked (hard for me to see) the scratches can be polished out. The case, though, looks like gold plated brass and looks like the plating has rubbed off at the lugs already. Polishing it further will just expose more of the brass underneath. Unfortunately it'll have to be re-plated again. Or you can just leave the plating, sort the crystal and you have a really cool looking piece with character - it'll probably be worth more (if that's important to you). It'll for sure need a proper service though - I doubt any certified service centre would touch it though. You welcome to PM me so I can have a look for you.
The crystal is cracked where it meets the bezel.

Why wouldn't a certified Omega workshop touch it? They have in the past (in the US and UK). It's from the late 60s early 70s so it's bound to show some wear.

Ah ok, yeah better to replace the crystal then.

It's not the cosmetic wear that won't make them want to touch it, it's the lack of spare parts. They don't joke around - they'll want to replace things like barrel bridges and barrels complete because of wear. These parts are no longer available new on that caliber. Interestingly, I was looking at that exact same model (but with SS case) on an auction just yesterday. I just didn't feel like adding more to my current pile of vintage swiss projects where I'll be spending months looking for unobtanium parts (the one I looked at had a broken yoke)

Case in point, independent watchmakers would rather repair a worn bridge by staking and/or bushing worn bearing surfaces - techniques like these aren't used by official service centres at all. It's like taking your car to the dealer - they don't want to pull a head to replace a blown head gasket on a modern engine, they'll quote for a new engine. It's an after sales liability issue for them more than anything else.

I'm meeting up with my mother next month so I'll have her take it back to UK for a full service and crystal replacement. In the meantime I've got a polaroid for daily use :)

Go do yourself a favour and go buy a spare battery from Treger brands (it uses an MT920 rechargeable cell) before local stocks run out. They are plentiful overseas, but no one ships lithium batteries to South Africa and Treger probably won't get more in. And whatever you do, don't leave it in a drawer for years like some people do. It needs sun to keep it topped off.

Please let me know if they take it on and what they charged? I'm genuinely curious!

I live in the Netherlands now so it won't be an issue to get a battery. I've given it to my 13yo son now and it lies in his windowsill in the sun when he's not wearing it.

Ah great! Yet another reason to become an expat, so you can find parts for your watch

Swatch Gangsters...how hysterically funny. Stop being pussies and stomp that fat bastard and his "tough" sidekicks...they'll last 3 minutes around here.

Looks like Pablo is also a sneaker scalper. At least the trainers can be scalped because silly people are happy to pay over the odds and they're subject to very limited runs. Him and his gang likely spend their early mornings queuing outside Footpatrol intimidating Spanish simps.

Moonswatch seems to be losing its appeal as the quality issues come to light and hundreds of them sit on eBay with massively inflated prices.

Yeah, it's a novelty at best, disposable at worst. It's great that it got so much focus on wristwatches again but Swatch really needs to re-think the logistics on this one.

New pick up - Fenix 7S.

Facing up to having to return it as I failed to do enough research. I went for the S model (42mm) as I didn't want something dinner plate sized. I guess for athletes, they would want a dinner plate as they'd be constantly tapping the screen and don't have to worry about cuffs or appearance.

The issue I have is that it comes with a too-short strap and lack of replacement options. I'm on the last holes and have an average sized wrist. Aftermarket options are very limited as there is a bespoke easy fit system to attach the strap to the oversized spring bars. Except the spring bars are fixed (or at least jammed in very stiffly and hard to remove). They're also very thick. Some forums suggest cutting the stock spring bars and obtaining replacements for the 6 model as they can be removed in the normal way, but most of the conversation speaks to the standard size and X (tra large) models, not the S. I'd say replacements are very hard to come by.

The stock strap itself is very uncomfortable with the buckle digging in awkwardly.

There are a few Chinese aftermarket options - replacement silicon and velcro - but that's going to be a bit of a lottery when it comes to comfort and quality. A NATO works but then you lose the sensors under the watch head.

This is all a shame as I love the functionality and the aesthetics are pretty nice. The screen is a bit muted due to the battery management and the solar overlay. Battery life swayed me with this thing, but it does make the case thicker than a Pelagos and I'm ok with that, it's not OTT like some divers.

It was dead. Therefore real cheap (as far as SKX's go). Now it's not. I chucked it into the latest lot I got from a Japanese auction site and it turned out much nicer than the initial pics suggested.
