Love my Casio as well … actually has quickly become my go to and favourite watch (no this is not a gshock mod)
awesome watch .love gshocks got probably 20 of them but sadly i like my Citizen more it has history behind it

So after months on the leather band I now have the original bracelet on after popping into a Jeweller. Cost me the princely sum of R30 to remove a few links. It's been ages since I've worn one and we'll see how long it stays on.

I used to hate bracelets but now I prefer them. I guess you go through phases

Is that a “sharp edged”?

Every month I think “is this the time to push buy on that SPB165J1”

New crystal or did you polish it?

I got a range of diamond grit polish’s a while back and I’ve been meaning to try clean up the crystal on my ancient Citizen divers watch that has some rather deep scratches. They did noticeably minimise the scratches on a friends Mont Blanc domed crystal using a dremel.

Apart from watching for heat are there any tricks and tips for polishing crystals.

I struggle to get the fit I want with bracelets, much easier with a strap. Bracelets I find half a size too small or too big. This is fitting ok so far though.

Yeah, it's the sharp edged series, picked it up at the beginning of the year. Other watches have been gathering a bit of dust since then.

The SPB165J1 is beautiful, almost got it over the blue. Think if I had it in white it would seriously push me to a Grand Seiko snowflake.

Hah, nooooo. I replaced that crystal. I was lucky to find one still in stock as it's pretty specific to that piece, being slightly domed. If I had a choice, I would always replace a crystal rather than try and polish it - especially if it's mineral or sapphire. I do have the cerium oxide compound here but I can never get them as perfect as I want them to justify the amount of time you have to spend (I'm talking hours here).

In some cases I'll tart up an acrylic crystal if it's original to the watch (like the Omega I'm busy with, where you can see the stamped Omega logo on the inside), but otherwise I replace them as well.

Acrylic crystals are around R50, mineral ones are between R120-R250 and proper sapphire ones are around R500. You'd be surprised that even real fancy watches use easily obtainable crystals (unless they're stamped like Omega - or something unique like Black Knight I posted above) so I just replace. In fact, I'm busy now with a Longines Angle Hour and yup, uses a standard SK sapphire crystal.

I have used cerium oxide but the diamond polish cuts quicker and you can start on a coarser grits to do the bulk of the work and then move to the finer stuff. I got a handful of syringes of the different grades from eBay for around R100, which should last an eternity.

To change a crystal you’d need a press and the special glue?

Do it!!! The endmill is THE aftermarket bracelet for seiko IMO

Yeah, I bought it on rubber with the intention of upgrading to the endmill but then I used the upgrade money towards a Mako II.

lol

009’s been in heavy rotation lately. Hoping to buy an Endmill from Strapcode soon.

To my mind these are the best watches for the money bar none, I just wish they made them in vintage diver size around 36mm. I actually prefer the cheaper quartz versions because it’s more convenient if you aren’t wearing the watch daily.

Before they were discontinued though, the prices are ridiculous for an SKX now.

I didn’t know they stopped making them, do they make anything similar in their current range?
