A Internet users no longer have any excuse if they get themselves lost. Search giant Google has updated its maps.google.com website with detailed SA street maps. Previously, the system showed only major arterial routes.

Not very up to date maps though, many of the street name changes in Joburg are not shown et (eg. Hans Strijom -> Malibongwe)

They should also consider updating some Google Earth images, especially around KZN. When I get a view of my area, it shows 2004.

Tried it - great improvement - tipe in the street name and town and walla - In most plateland towns the zoom in needs inprovement....

Yeah looks nice, but the area I live in - for more than 2 years already, don't even show...nothing nada, not even farm roads...and the place has existed since 2004...

The poor guys who will get the job of photographing SA's streets for Streetview, will not make it two blocks without being relieved of their vehicles and equipment at gunpoint.

I used to use www.streetmaps.co.za, which had pretty good maps for my area, but now I'm definitely switching over to Google Maps

They (google) updated it last week Monday already. It is pretty good but still not as up to date as new Garmaps or Nokia Maps (v0.13h). For now the best routing is still Garmin and second to that Nokia Maps.
