ShowMax is better than Netflix: Naspers

Ah, okay - better than a non existent service with 0 movies and 0 series. :erm:

pretty cool but isn't that setting the bar a little low? Netflix hasn't even launched yet.
It would be like MWeb saying they provide a faster internet connection than Google Fiber, in SA.
 
It does not seem to work on custom Android ROM's and is full of nonsense in Firefox browser, not working in Firefox Nightly 64-bit, works in Chrome though.
 
Can't wait for the app to come to Xbox One

He didn't actually say Showmax is better than Netflix though, that's just a misleading headline, as usual. He said:
“I think our content selection is actually broader compared to when Netflix launches in a new country,” he said.

“I’m not talking about using a VPN,” he added – referring to accessing the US Netflix catalogue by tricking the service into thinking you’re connecting to it from the United States.

I've gotten to the point that any new news article that pops up is assumed to be click-bait and wrong.
 
Well, the Netflix app is everywhere and works on older devices... And Netflix has a PS4 app. Something that Showmax has been promising for nearly a year now and still no PS4 app. It doesn't help that you have a great catalogue and not an equally great selection of available ways for customers to view your content.
 
I stopped my ShowMax subscription because they kept promising an XBox One app that never came. I'm very happy with Netflix.
 
Old thread, but Netflix is drawing further ahead.

Lots of new series, and you can even download to SD cards on Android devices. And 4K, looks great (I have good FTTH).
 
Never had Netflix buffer before...

The only reason showmax actually survives us because of monopoly over content. Without it Amazon and Netflix would've killed it.
 
Yes, I know its an old thread but sometimes it great to comment. I've had ShowMax since the week they started and have kept my subscription active since then. Netflix on the other hand, I use for 2-3 months before deactivating for 6 months. Just deactivated again last month.

Reason, content.

We watch more ShowMax than Netflix. Actually it's ShowMax, Youtube and then a distant Netflix.

Do agree that Netflix has a superior infrastructure compared to ShowMax but it's missing the regional content (Afrikaans) that my family enjoys. ShowMax also has more shows my kids enjoy.

I'm no brand loyalist and constantly review our need to keep our ShowMax subscription.

So old I've got rid of Xbox One and bought a new TV with it on.

I browsed through and decent for R99.00 ... but nothing I really want :/ I prefer Netflix and their series / shows. I was hoping that Showmax would have Orange Is The New Black though.
