ShowMax not increasing subscription price

It would be a seriously dumb move to hike your Sub now, especially since I suspect Showmax is already selling their service at a loss to gain market share.

I bought a six month subscription so for 6 months I am shielded against any hikes.

With GoT almost upon us again. I think I should also buy a 6 months voucher and keep it in my drawer just in case.

Anyone know if there are any expiry dates on these vouchers?

R99/mth is pretty cheap when you consider you can split it with a friend if you're a cheapskate :)

MyBB is full of armchair critics & naysayers about DSTV bring crap & ShowMax due to the holding company. DSTV is pricey granted but does offer a useful service to these who want/need it.

ShowMax at a R99 price point + recent offline capability (tested myself & works great) is a winner in my book.

The selection is more than decent & *always* increasing.

Their iOS App are not as well thought as Netflix yes but how much USD does Netflix have & many years have they been in the game?!

ShowMax is only 6 months old. The Twitter customer service channel (again tested myself on numerous occasions) is jacked up as well.

2 different public IPs?
Not tested unfortunately, I have showed it to friends on my phone using MTN data but can't say if anyone was streaming in the office at the same time - quite likely though as when the cat's away ... :)

I'll try it out :) Will be a bonus

Hmmm, so subs for non-sports heavy DSTV packages should stay the same-ish? Or is an increase in DSTV subs meant to subsidise the increase in content costs all the providers say is happening because of the exchange?

If Showmax is exposed to the same pricing pressures as a Netflix but uses it's traditional DSTV subscriptions to subsidise the content costs, is that not an anti-trust type situation the Competition Board would be interested in?

The money argument is a pretty poor one when we consider who is Showmax's parent company...
