What "quality" are you talking about?

Picture quality?

Quality of the shows?

Quality of the app/site?

I found both the picture quality and quality of the shows decent as they plenty of HBO shows at 720p.

The site and app though could do with a few more features.

Agree the quality isn't great.
Just download some X265 720p small rip tv shows and compare the same show on Showmax.
On Showmax the black levels aren't black enough and there is banding.
Also stationary standing walls, paintings or objects have 'static noise' where the pixels are moving, this is the biggest problem.
On x265 videos you can see all stationary objects are completely standing still with no moving pixels.
If Showmax could use X265 encoding for their streams, I think it would solve lots of the quality issues.

Three things keeping me from renewing my Showmax subscription...

- No airplay support using the iOS app. I mean seriously WTF... :erm:
- No 4th Gen apple TV app as yet.
- The "loading error" message that appeared too often and only went away after an hour or so.

Once they have this sorted they should be decent competition.
Oh.. quality does sucks even for a 2Mb connection.

Not interested in Showmax. Its gives me an old technology feel. Besides, no airplay or casting support either.

What bugs me is the bait and switch - you can have a 7day free trial...but only after giving them your payment information!

I would rather they give the free trial and then if you like it, upgrade.

Now I do not have a credit card and will not give debit card info, so I have to shlep to PnP for a voucher...

Just FYI multichoice- the less obstacles for the consumer the better.

I'm currently watching Vikings on my 48" SmartTV and there is zero problems with the image quality. I seldom get a drop in quality and that usually lasts for a brief moment.

Except for the first two weeks when they started, I've had no problems with any of the movies or series I've watched.

Too easy for someone to use free email addresses and keep using the free trial forever.

So it's understandable why they do this.

Probably a little old, but seems that they will be releasing an Xbox app... Which makes me happy

http://gearburn.com/2015/09/showmax-playstation-xbox-apps/

They have been slow to release apps which is a disappointment. My 32" SmartTV 2015 model is buggy with ShowMax and its the most popular SmartTV being sold. I've reported it to them and there support has been great but the issues are still not resolved. On my 2014 48" I've had no problems.

I'm not brand loyal so while I love ShowMax, I would quickly switch to a competitor who could offer me better support and more devices to view my content.

Yup it's the same as most places, even my free Google play store requires billing details.

Sorry that was supposed to be Google play music :( it wouldn't activate my free month without it.

Was gonna say I'm sure I never had to set up payment details for Google Play, but I did have to for the book store come to think of it.

you did see the *cough* prepaid *cough* option in post #52?

Yes I did thanks- hence me saying I need to shlep to PnP to buy one....

Still I need to "pay" before I can register for trial.

Not the biggest issue, granted.

But if you want to nitpick....then it is an issue for me.

Everything said "Upgrade to Watch", so I did, and it shows my subscription(7 day trial first), but everything is still on "Upgrade to Watch".

Any tricks I'm missing here?

EDIT: Never mind. Took 20 minutes to shake itself out it seems. All good. :)
