They are not..he is just expanding Canonical's empire... my 2c

Because Ubuntu really is fantastic, and I doubt he will be making any money out of this ever. But even if he did and expanded Cannonical's empire, then all the better. Cannonical employs some of the greatest hackers and deserve some greatness

There is South Africans on the Ubuntu Team's and I say teams since there is various teams like development, kernel, desktop, documentation etc -- actually I am involved in some of the teams. There is also some people from South Africa that is employed by Canonical and works on the Ubuntu project.

There are South Africans working for Cannonical yes, but I wasn't aware that any of them were working on Ubuntu. I thought they were all on SchoolTool, etc
