I have a question about the 3 year period over which sick leave is calculated. Is it a rolling 3 year period, or does an entirely new cycle start after 3 years? For example, if I took 15 days sick leave in year 1, 5 in year 2 and 7 in year 3, would I start a new 3 year cycle with 30 days leave in year 4, or would I again have 18 days in year 4 (as I used 12 days in the previous 2 years)?

But doesn't necessarily tie up to an actual year (eg. Jan - Dec)

It would for example be 30 days sick leave applicable in in the last 3 years working back from today.

Just consult your HR.

It's a rolling 3 year period.

Nope.

22. (1) In this Chapter, ‘‘sick leave cycle’’ means the period of 36 months’
employment with the same employer immediately following—
(a) an employee’s commencement of employment; or
(b) the completion of that employee’s prior sick leave cycle.
(2) During every sick leave cycle, an employee is entitled to an amount of paid sick
leave equal to the number of days the employee would normally work during a period
of six weeks

Quoted from the act - Chapter 3 section 22.

That is correct. Depending on your employment contract your sick leave cycle starts after X months of employment. This is not revolving so if you use 20 days in the first 2 years you will not have available sick leave for the next year. Only after 3 years you will begin the cycle again.

Except that it is 30 days in a 3 year period, ie the equivalent of 6 work weeks.
