Sick Note confusion

I recently had measles and recieved sick notes from a plethora of Drs,

I went to the doc on the "3 September" after work,
This Dr booked me off from the 3 - 4 (I never checked the sick note properly I was at work on the 3rd)

I then stayed off 4th and 5th as I was getting worse, returned to docter on Saturday the 6th (No note issued),

Then went to hospital on the Sunday (Still no diagnosis at this point) they booked me off Monday 8th.

Returned to my usual Dr Monday and he immediately booked me off for 2 weeks.

So TL: DR, I am missing the 5th of September, although with Thurday and Monday covered do they need to specify a specific day (Friday).

Sorry I know this is confusing.

Handed in 4 sick notes and manager is complaining about missing day.

Ask doc for a sample of measles and inject your boss with it.

While technically you are missing a note for a day,I suspect if you ask the doc for a note for the day in question you'd get it given the extended notes afterward

Your manager is correct. Most companies require a sick certificate if the person is off on a Friday or Monday (or the day before a public holiday. If you went to the doctor on Saturday you should have asked for a certificate to cover the Friday.

Shouldn't be a problem especially if it is your usual GP.

Just ask the doc for an amended sick note stating that on the 5th you were booked off sick by him / her.

This. Unfortunately HR policy is policy.

True

policy is there to be followed & prevent abuse of the system...

And true again.

But here's my view on it. Is the manager a prick about it or did he/she advise the OP as such?:

While technically you are missing a note for a day,I suspect if you ask the doc for a note for the day in question you'd get it given the extended notes afterward

This demonstrates the difference between a good manager and a bad one.

Phone Dr. 1 and tell him to change it. No problem...

Dr. 1 booked me off with pharyngitis, not sure if he'll change to measles. Will try my regular doctor and if its a no go then will go back to doc 1.

All in same building. Note to self, only use regular doc. Thanks for advice all

Tell him what happened, he can leave the diagnoses as is or change it. As long as you don't alter the sick note yourself. Whatever he puts on there is irrelevant. You just need a note to cover that day :p

Personally I feel given the circumstances the policy is being followed to a ridiculous point...

I always thought the sick note was merely to give proof/indication of absenteeism but any minor discrepancies would be judged reasonably and approved in reasonable fashion by the manager.

It was measles for goodness sake. 1 day unaccounted for isn't going to raise any eyebrows. Now they are just wasting the OP's time! This is just so brainlessly stupid.

Hell I guess that's why I'm not an auditor :/

This was my general feeling, I am all for following protocol, but I provided 4 seperate sick notes already. pre-dating the missing day.

But meh - corporate can be a stickler for such things.

Also employees are sneaky little things, allowances generally can be set as precedent, and people will try to grey lines.

Your manager is an idiot, he is wasting your time. Rather find out from hr if it is necessary to get a sick note for that day.
