Sick Taxi drivers

This is sick. Our society is sick.
Any female deserves the right to dignity and to keep her privates private.
This is a gross breach of human dignity.
Imagine if that were to happen to your mother,wife or daughter.
This is no laughing matter.This is sick.
We should revoke the taxi drivers licences that were involved and confiscate their taxis.

We can't revoke what probably does not exist. We can sure confiscate the vehicles.

Why not just arrest the drivers...if you confiscate the vehicles you are punishing the owner who was not even at the taxi rank...
Too true - it is sexual assault, and the crowd as a whole needs to be arrested, not just the instigators. I guarantee you they blocked/circled the woman in so the taxi drivers could get away with whatever they wanted.

I'm going to play devil's advcocate here but what was she doing wearing a miniskirt if she knew these guys couldn't hold it in? I mean would you go through a dimly lit street in
an area where muggings occur showing a Rolexx of? Would you drive your expensive
convertible there? I wouldn't. Some common sense people, we all know what men's attitudes are to women in SA and we all know how effective the cops and the courts are, why tempt fate then?

That woman grew up near guys like these. She knew very well what they are capable of. It's not like she came from the moon or awoke from a coma that day and put a miniskirt on.
If you know that there are criminals somewhere, would you go there and show off your golden Rolex? I wouldn't. Also no daughter of mine would be that stupid as to show off her legs to guys who obviously think of women
as sex objects exclusively. The same clowns who raped this women
DID NOT rape other women who wore longer dresses or pants. So again
I ask you, WHY TEMPT fate? It's the same with wearing seat-belts. I wear
mine not because it's illegal not to wear one but because they save
lives. There are many people who wear seat belts ONLY to avoid
a fine or don't wear one at all. Is that pragmatic?
Sorry SA is not a safe place for lone women especially if they are pretty
and especially if they wear revealing clothing.

According to Zulu cutlure, young women wore very very short outfits that only concealed their private parts...and had their breasts bare....whoever says it's Zulu culture does not really know what they are talking about....
I agree with that statement, Why single out the Zulu or the Taxi driver, It's more a question or issue of a certain group of people in inciting and hyping others into doing the act. Remember how easy it was to create a victim during the time necklace murders was the order of the day. Nothing changed.
It would be stupid of me to argue against this as it is common sense that wearing revealing clothing is likely to increase your chances of sexual assault. I find it sick that this is the case though.
HOWEVER, the blame cannot be placed on the shoulders of the victim here - that really is wrong. Sure, she might have taken preventative measures such as not wearing revealing clothing, but thats the same as blaming victims of housebreaking for keeping a back door open during summer.
/OT - We needed the door open because we had friends over who were smoking in the house or moving between inside and outside to the bar for drinks. You cant blame someone without understanding the circumstances for which she might have hers. And wearing a miniskirt is no excuse for rape.
The blame should be squarely on the shoulders of the offender, as blaming the victim serves no purpose. She might be more careful next time, but its a sad state of affairs when you have to carefully watch what you wear for fear of being raped.
EDIT: I just re-read your response. You actually blame the victim! Its her own fault? So exactly what items of clothing should a woman be allowed to wear then, and what should she not be allowed to wear?

I blame her for being naive or maybe she wanted to be assaulted (it happens with some psychiatric illnesses). Still I principally blame her
for being naive, some may say STUPID. If she was some adolescent
schoolchild I wouldn't blame her but I assume this was an adult woman
who knew full well WHAT MEN WANT and HOW TO MANIPULATE THEM
using dress or behaviour. Her naivety or maybe plain stupidity led to
her rape or sexual molestation. I mean I wouldn't behave in this way if
I was a woman. It's not like she needs a miniskirt for her job and without
it she'll loose it and her family will starve and she had no other choice.....
Let me rephrase something else. We live in a very dangerous country
where a woman/child is raped every 20 seconds and 50 people are
killed every day. We also know that our society is very patriarchal, no
matter how many women ministers and MPs the ANC makes this hasn't changed in the last few days. We know what sort of attitudes many men
have towards women. We know and I sure as heck think she knew too.
Now it's not right what they did and I don't condone their actions.
They should be arrested but that probably won't happen.
I won't disagree on this, lock them up for all eternity, I'd do
that.
Don't confuse what I'm saying here - all I am saying that in this case she should
get a Darwinian Award.

I don't think when wearing traditional clothing in a traditional setting women gets felt up or raped in public.
This is wrong wichever way you look at it.
We live in a sick society that blames it on the women.
In this case it is clearly the men that perpetrated this act.
To in any way blame women for this,demonstrates what a sick society we live in.
I repeat: What would you do if this happened to your mother, wife, sister or daughter?
None of you would be very impressed, would you?
I wouldn't be impressed but I sure as heck would never allow my daughter to
1. Take a taxi.
2. Wear a miniskirt in a dangerous area.
Sure you could get raped anywhere but I'd educate my daughter about
AVOIDANCE and sure as heck I hope she'd have the common sense
as an adult to know that short skirts and macho guys with visions of
women as sex objects DO NOT MIX.
And let me say something else. BLAMING the woman here is the FEMINIST thing to do. I'm assuming women are of
at least the same intellectual level as men. Hence I blame her. If I was some patriarchal misogynist I would
have said "Poor girl. Now let's put her in the kitchen where she belongs and let her 3 big brothers protect her
in her miniskirt because sure as heck I don't believe women are capable of being intelligent enough to avoid
bad situations....".

Harsh but fair. I agree to an extent, however a close family member was recently raped and I find it extremely difficult to pass ANY blame onto her shoulders. She was coming back from a club (dressed to impress, yes) and it happened on the way home. I was witness to one person blaming her for her outfit and I know what negative affect that statement has had on her.
