So I'm sure some of you have a side business or side businesses to earn some extra money.

Would any of you mind sharing what the business does? And whether it is profitable, given the extra effort you have to put in?

Well,

I've been running NextGenNews (a commercial NNTP provider) for just over a year now. It's pretty much been profitable from day one with one or two months that it made a loss. For the last 6 months or so I've been seeing a nice 10% month on month growth in the business, and new oppertunities are also presenting itself rather frequently. It started paying my car installments, now it pays my home installments, and touch wood, within the next couple of months I should be in a position to resign and run it full time thanks to one or two rather big deals coming through the cards :)

Run website/software development company on the side with web hosting.

Make lumpsum amounts from clients on custom software or website coding and pull a small amount each month from hosting. Makes a few 10's of thousands each year which is nice to take me and the lady on a holiday overseas once a year :)
