For those of you who own a side-by-side fridge and freezer, what brand did you choose? Working well? I like Defy, but I see they get bad reviews on the Makro website, incl. being noisy and not warming up.

We have an LG side-by-side as well as Bosch top-and-bottom. The LG didn't have enough storage in the freezer, due to the ice machine, hence the subsequent purchase of the Bosch. The LG is many years old but still works great.

Defy. Bought 2013, still going strong. No ice maker, more space in the door.

Yes, less quieter than my previous fridge, also Defy fridge/freezer but only because it is standing in my dining-room on tiles as it doesn't fit in the allocated space in the kitchen - probably why 99% of people are mentioning it.

Not side by side but have the separate fridge and freezer units standing side by side. Easier to move and if one break you can still use the other.
Had Bosch but one of them broke every few years. Always the pc board and cost a lot to fix.
Then last year Lighting struck and Fridge was gone. Insurance paid and was about to get another Bosch, but then there was same size Defy on special for 5k less. Took it and so far its great. What I do like is there seems to be no electronics. Just the old style knob you turn for temp. So hopefully no pc boards.

Consider that it's a bulky item to move.
If one side breaks...
Chest freezer is better and can stand in the garage or another room.

The problem with chest freezers is access to the stuff at the bottom. You end up unpacking the thing.

Defy side by side bought 2006 before Defy was sold and the quality went down. The freezer fan ran a bearing a few years ago. It doesn't work without the fan and ices up the element. A new fan solved the problem.

Mostly all the same internally nowadays at each general price point, just with different facades for each brand.

I buy for warranty and perceived quality. Hisense 5 year.

I recommend a jumbo bottom freezer fridge over a side-by-side. Way more space and width.

The Hisense jumbo BF, black stainless, is epic. I got it for around R11k but usually R15k+. Excellent build quality and extremely well laid out inside. Not an inverter motor.

Still love my LG uprights but they’re around R20k each. Uprights always win if there’s space and budget.

LG (Lucky Goldstar) is good. Have a side by side from 2001 or so and it's still going strong. Not inverter because back then no inverters but these days with inverters you have even better efficiency.

I have an old defy, thats still going strong. A few years ago I bought defy again, unfortunately, it did not last. Had it fix and got rid of it.
