SIERRA On-Line Documentary

Sierra games were amazing. The only problem is if you miss place a disk. You are completely stuffed then.Police Quest and Heros quest were the best and Leisure suite Larry had those questions in the begining to see if you are above 18 to play the game.

I'll add Space quest to that list

Ken Williams isn't much loved by some types in the gaming community, and has released his book,

apparently it is worth the read.

Some old Sierra employees losing their schit over this book. They don't have my sympathies. People will be surprised how many apologised in making games like Leisure Suit Larry, Police Quest and Space Quest and have gone mad with political correctness.

I am glad Al Lowe doesn't give a schit,

it is a bliss to read his Twitter

Nah for me it was Gabriel Knight followed by Quest for Glory
+1 for Gabriel Knight, it's the one sierra game I have played over and over through the years..

Me too. All 3 of them.

Also played the crap out of Quest for Glory V back in the day.

Never played V but played the hell out of 1-4 (Trial by Fire will always be my soft spot)
V was the first one I played but it's also the best imo. I'm in the minority though because most people probably think it's the worst.

I like them all though. They all bring back so many good memories. Have to say I have a soft spot for Wages of War. Which again puts me in the minority because it's on the bottom of many people's lists too.

Here's a nice vid ranking the games. Actually makes me want to play them again

Idiots

Was by far the best in the Sierra series.
None of the Sierra games came close to the Monkey Island / Lucasarts series story wise IMO. Pity they didn't do quite as many.
For those who miss them....

I much preferred the Sierra games - think I played them all - never really got into the Lucasarts games for some reason

I definitely think there are high points from both publishers...

My favourites in no particular order.

Grim Fandango
Full Throttle
Space Quest IV
Kings Quest VI
Gabriel Knight 1 & 2
Quest for Glory 2 & 4

The standout sierra games for me are the Gabriel Knight series followed by Quest for Glory then Space Quest.

From LucasArts it's Monkey Island (especially MI3) followed by Grim Fandango and Indiana Jones.

And don't forget about Revolution games. The first two Broken Sword games are right up there as some of the best classic adventure games of all time. Far better than almost everything from sierra and lucasarts. The first game is one of my all time favourites.

So I should probably play Gabriel Knight.

GOG, Steam, or IOS then?

gog or steam get the old school mouse point and click adventure experience.
just FYI that is Tim Curry's voice :)
The first Gabriel Knight had a really good voice cast, back in the day when you could get high power actors to voice games for cheap cheap...

Tim Curry ... Gabriel Knight / Gedde Butler (voice)
Mark Hamill ... Det. Mosely / Jeep Driver (voice)
Leah Remini ... Grace Nakimura (voice)
Virginia Capers ... Narrator (voice)
Michael Dorn ... Dr. John (voice)

yep it had a bloody decent cast some

although the second game plot and game play was OK the live actors were a bit meh - and only Tim I think (from the main 3) returned for the 3rd one.

while we on the subject @dabean avoid the 20th Anniversary Edition they recast all the voices.

Must admit, I still enjoyed the 20th Anniversary despite the recasting. Not as good as the original but still worth playing if you are a fan, but yeah, the original is the place to start...
